Whether they're emulating famous artists, writing their own class constitution, acting out classic tales, identifying invertebrates, or watching history come alive before their eyes, learning is always an adventure for our students.
Our Elementary and Preschool teachers use intoReading, iReady, Heggerty, and Learning Without Tears, and our Reading Specialist and Elementary teachers are trained in the Orton Gillingham approach to reading and writing.

Enter the elementary building through the playground door, and you'll immediately be swept away by the color and drama of the second- and third-graders' expressionist drawings displayed on the wall!
Teacher Ripley explains that expressionism began in the 1920s as a movement "focused on conveying feelings and emotions rather than depicting reality. Artists used vivid colors, distorted shapes, and exaggerated forms to express their inner feelings."
One work (image number four) struck your humble correspondent as particularly evocative. When asked about its creation, Teacher Ripley revealed that the artist had to leave class early that day and poured their disappointment out on the page. Expressionism: does what it says on the tin!

The school was abuzz with excitement on Friday as the folks from the Portland Insectarium arrived for a much ant-icipated visit.
Enthralled students (and teachers) of all ages crowded around the library table as the Insectarium's bug wranglers showed off a dead leaf mantis, a colony of horrid king assassin bugs, Brazilian scorpions, a glamorous Southern house spider, and many more! At the "touch table," students got to hold baby beetles, zebra isopods, and Madagascar hissing cockroaches.
The Insectarium's wranglers were incredibly knowledgeable and engaging as they helped learners of all ages feel comfortable and confident with our many-legged visitors. We had a websolutely fabulous time!
