Movement art that helps relaxation.

08/22/2017

When you follow your principles that you learned in any martial art you have the potential to topple larger opponents. This guy has taken his judo to a very high-level and he's fighting people maybe two or 300 pounds heavier. It's not easy but he still follows the principles he learned in judo. The Vin diagram between sumo and judo is much closer than many arts and how he executes the throws is very indicative of Judo versus that of sumo.

He's probably taking all those blows from huge opponents, avoiding them when he him and finding the place his opponents are weak. Instead of looking at push hands (Tuī shǒu 推手) as being a gentle practice you should look on it more like the sumo matches.

How prepared you are for an opponent much larger to shovel arm in your face? If you practice your Push Hands is always super soft you will not know how to fight with your martial art. Not everyone needs to fight but pretending your art is a fighting art and you don't practice with some real consequence (even if the consequences are under controlled situation) you're actually just practicing a movement art.

It's important to know the difference. The sumo matches there's no question The reality of their situation: you have lumbering giants Who have studied their entire life to pound you into the ground. They have stepped out of society norms to gain weight so each time they hit you there is more power transferred. Documentaries about their lifestyle are very brutal and unforgiving. They also have a young mortality rate in their 40s and 50s. Underestimating someone in this martial path has made a poor life decision.

Anyway follow your principles and take them as far as you can!
