At Foundation School, the high holidays were a joyous time of exploration, introspection, and discovery.

Today, we began a new tradition at Foundation School! Every other week, we will be receiving tubs of bread dough from local bakery Dana's Breads. Each child will shape their own challah and then we will bake them and send them home.

Shana Tovah! We wish all our family and friends (new and old!) a very sweet new year, filled with hope and resilience in the face of challenges. May we all find peace and joy in the year ahead.

This week, Foundation School children practiced Tashlich, thinking back on the past year and making goals for this upcoming year. Rather than bread crumbs, we threw native wildflower seeds into the creek, in keeping with our mission to connect with the natural world around us without leaving a negative impact on the environment.

Shana Tova! Morah Etti Segal and Morah Candace delivered New Year cards to residents at Cedar Sinai Park. These cards were lovingly crafted by Foundation School kids ❤️.

Along the way, we even met a graduate of Foundation School from 1970! What an amazing legacy our preschool has.

And just like that, we’re ready for the school year! Our team of outstanding educators have worked hard all week to get ready, and each is excited to see what this year will bring. Under the leadership of Admin Director Candace Rothstein and our new Director of Early Childhood Education, Dr. Ronit Scheyer, the school is in good hands to make this an incredible year for our precious kehilah kedosha.

Foundation School students celebrated Lag B’Omer today! We flattened and stretched the dough to make pita and then we cooked it over a fire. We also enjoyed popsicles, songs, and stories!

Mazal Tov to Etti Segal on being awarded today with The Laurie Rogoway Outstanding Jewish Professional Award

Jodi Fried and Caron Rothstein from the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland surprised Etti with the award during Foundation School Havdalah. Etti is being honored as an extraordinary educator. In her role as Hebrew and Judaics Specialist at Congregation Neveh Shalom, Etti teaches in Foundation School, ALIYAH, and Machon Ivrit Hebrew program for adults, provides professional development training to teachers, and supports our Israeli-American Jewish programming.
