Oregon College of Art and Craft (October 7, 1907–May 31, 2019): OCAC is a Creative Community in Portland where we learn how to think, not what to think, how to craft art, not what art to craft. It’s a place to develop a breadth of experience with different materials that is very rare in our age of specialization, yet extraordinarily useful in today’s ever changing art world. It’s that rare place w

here everyone’s views are valued, where careful and caring discussion and respect for difference are the guiding rules, not the exception. OCAC is an intentionally small, exceptionally student-centered art college gathering people from all over the country. The College offers nationally recognized degree and certificate programs in Craft with concentrations in Books Arts/Printmaking, Ceramics, Drawing/Painting, Fibers/Textiles, Metals/Jewelry, Photography, and Wood/Sculpture. Degrees and Certificates include a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Three-year undergraduate Certificate, and a one-year Post-Baccalaureate Certificate. The College offers graduate programs including an MFA in Applied Craft and Design (in collaboration with Pacific Northwest College of Art), and its newest addition, an MFA in Craft. Adult and children's classes are available to the public, including a popular summer day-camp program and pre-college courses. The gift shop and exhibition gallery on campus provide a variety of art works to be viewed and purchased, including select alumni works.

OCAC (Oct. 7, 1907—May 31, 2019) | Farewell with Love: ♥️ As we reflect on 112 years of blood, sweat, tears + joy channeled into MAKING, there are not enough characters to express gratitude.

OCAC has been both haven + homeland for decades of renegade artists, soulful makers, visionary designers, and paradigm–shifting creatives. Among countless contributions, it will be remembered for the iconic 2006 slogan, CRAFT LIVES HERE.

The sentiment is screen–printed in our minds—and on our t–shirts/totes if you attended the Farewell Party. While it's time to let go of the physical space that is OCAC and bid farewell to our majestic campus home, we will always treasure visions of:

Rainbows 🌈 arching across the balcony of the Drawing, Painting, and Photography Building. 🍀 Four–leaf clovers 🍀 lining the meadow near the OCAC Ceramics.

"Artists–in–Residence" in the form of baby deers behind the Admin Building, squirrels visiting the Library, and the sounds of birds chirping outside every window.

Student installations of miniature ceramic monsters, bunnies, birds, and rubber duckies waiting to be discovered in the nooks and crannies of 9+ woodsy acres. And technicolor sunsets painted across the sky outside OCAC Metals.

As OCAC students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members look ahead to new adventures, we hold on to our ultimate treasure—The People.

Today, OCAC Book and Print Department Head Barb Tetenbaum reminds us that: CRAFT CONTINUES TO LIVE HERE ♥️—in the hearts of all who "carry a piece of the original flame lit by Julia Hoffman" in 1907. Pictured: Limited edition letterpress print by Barb Tetenbaum.
