OCAC (Oct. 7, 1907—May 31, 2019) | Farewell with Love: ♥️ As we reflect on 112 years of blood, sweat, tears + joy channeled into MAKING, there are not enough characters to express gratitude.
OCAC has been both haven + homeland for decades of renegade artists, soulful makers, visionary designers, and paradigm–shifting creatives. Among countless contributions, it will be remembered for the iconic 2006 slogan, CRAFT LIVES HERE.
The sentiment is screen–printed in our minds—and on our t–shirts/totes if you attended the Farewell Party. While it's time to let go of the physical space that is OCAC and bid farewell to our majestic campus home, we will always treasure visions of:
Rainbows 🌈 arching across the balcony of the Drawing, Painting, and Photography Building. 🍀 Four–leaf clovers 🍀 lining the meadow near the OCAC Ceramics.
"Artists–in–Residence" in the form of baby deers behind the Admin Building, squirrels visiting the Library, and the sounds of birds chirping outside every window.
Student installations of miniature ceramic monsters, bunnies, birds, and rubber duckies waiting to be discovered in the nooks and crannies of 9+ woodsy acres. And technicolor sunsets painted across the sky outside OCAC Metals.
As OCAC students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members look ahead to new adventures, we hold on to our ultimate treasure—The People.
Today, OCAC Book and Print Department Head Barb Tetenbaum reminds us that: CRAFT CONTINUES TO LIVE HERE ♥️—in the hearts of all who "carry a piece of the original flame lit by Julia Hoffman" in 1907. Pictured: Limited edition letterpress print by Barb Tetenbaum.
