LHS has a Lavender Crow! We loved hosting last year’s Coraline’s Cats and our students received a gift of an unpainted Cat that they painted to be a Starry Night Cat. Follow the Crows/Crowd to Lincoln!
“Wildwood: Follow the Crows” is a free, self-guided art trail designed as part gallery, part scavenger hunt and part civic celebration. The outdoor installation is a joint effort from Laika, Downtown Portland Clean and Safe, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and Wild in Art, a U.K.-based art installation producer.

PPS Leadership Week ended with PPS/LHS Alum JT Flowers as the Keynote speaker. JT gave a “dissertation level” presentation (not surprising as a Yale alum, Truman Fellow, Rhodes Scholar, Congressman Blumenauer staffer, LHS Con Team alum, IB scholar, etc) on some of the work he helped lead at AVT before he left to start his own organization, taking his learning & dedication to community driven development and investment models statewide. JT’s superpower in addition to his brilliance, is his ability to bring people together, lift everyone up, and unite audiences and stakeholders in the work of building better communities. JT gave a warm shout out to the educators he was supported by when he was at Lincoln; Principal Chapman, IB TOK teacher Ms. Wadkins (Now CHS Principal, and Counselor James McGee (now GHS Principal), and showed deep appreciation to all urban public school educators and promising to send his son to school in PPS. 🙌

Student Representative to the PPS Board, Director Rose Sandell, was at her first in person Board meeting this week starting her 2026-2027 term. Rose is a rising senior at Lincoln, on ASB & Leadership, is a DEI leader, Intensive Skills Center (ISC) TA & Advocate, a Varsity Soccer Player, Cardinal Ambassador, mentor to underclassmen & FEX students, tour guide, and more. She will be weighing in on big issues this year from school right sizing models to next year’s budget and staffing decisions. Rose has advocated for increased state funding in Salem and will be an important voice to listen to on the Board. We are grateful for her service to the broader PPS community. 🙌

Looking for Community Service opportunities? Sack Lunches and Breakfast Items Needed
Hello Caring Cards -
A note from our Neighbor Bethanie's Room:
We're entering our sixth month of serving women and marginalized genders experiencing homelessness, and we have good news to share.
Six women moved into longer-term housing in July! Congratulations to Kristy, Emma, Kaitlyn, Darla, Dakota, and Barb. This was only possible because of the dogged determination of our staff, peer support team, and guests. Holding on to hope day after day isn't easy, but together, we succeeded.
With summer vacations and back-to-school plans in full swing, we're seeing very few sign-ups for sack lunches and breakfast donations. If you're able to help, we'd be so grateful.
SACK LUNCHES
Sign up to prepare 10 to 70 sack lunches with a simple sandwich, fruit, and a snack, then choose an evening to drop them off. This is a wonderful project for families, friends, church groups, or coworkers.
Many people enjoy decorating the brown bags with encouraging messages and art to brighten someone's day.
Drop-Off Times: Nightly between 5:40 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at 1015 NW 17th Ave, Portland, OR.
BREAKFAST ITEMS
Help us send guests off each morning with food in their bellies. We need ready-to-eat breakfast items that require no preparation, such as croissants, bananas, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, or other baked goods. Homemade treats are always welcome!
Please sign up to provide 24 to 30 individually portioned breakfast items, which can be dropped off the evening before or in the morning.
Drop-Off Times: Nightly between 5:40 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; or morning 6:30-7:30 a.m. at 1015 NW 17th Ave, Portland, OR.
Morning Volunteers Needed
As a privately funded shelter, we rely on volunteers to help fill in the gaps and offer guests the best experience possible. We need daily volunteers from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. to help with a variety of morning tasks. The morning shift is a great way to see our shelter in action and interact with guests.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to perform this role. For added info please contact LHS alum and former FOL President Mary Ann at:

Cheers to the lovely Class of 1986 who are celebrating their 40th this weekend. They were an involved class engaged in soccer, track & field, band, Polyglot, MUN, ISC, Speech & Debate, and two Cardinal Times Editors and a Rose Festival Princess attended, and people who had a great time in high school as well as some who shared it was a hard time. They loved the new spaces and certainly enjoyed reconnecting with each other before heading to the Goose for more socializing with additional classmates. Happy 40th! Go Cards! 🙌

Kudos to rising senior Omo Ise-Idehen, selected to work as a summer reading intern working with elementary age students. Go literacy Cards! 🙌
From the Oregonian this week:
Omo Ise-Idehen could tell that the word “log” had her soon-to-be first grade student stumped.
But after several weeks as one of a dozen high schoolers interning in Portland Public Schools’ early literacy focused summer learning classrooms, she knew how to help.
“What letter does it start with?” Ise-Idehen prompted the student, who was veering dangerously close to giving up, hanging his head dejectedly. When he ventured an “L,” she beamed.
“That’s right! Now, what sound does the L make?” Ise-Idehen asked.
In Portland summer schools, high schoolers are helping kids learn to read
The intern program is part of the all-out drive to improve literacy among struggling young readers in Portland.
