Last November, we launched our new Student and Family Experience Surveys.
The feedback we received from David Douglas students and families provided us with valuable insights into our strengths and areas for improvement.
By sharing your experiences, you are helping us build a better, more responsive school community for our students and families!

Congrats to Brynn Richardson who has been recognized as one of 2026 Newman’s Own Foundation School Food Hero!
We are so proud to have you at David Douglas. Thank you for all you do!
Happy School Lunch Hero Day to all the humans that feed our kids and a special shout out to Brynn Richardson from David Douglas School District who has been recognized as one of 2026 Newman’s Own Foundation School Food Hero! 🍽️✨
Brynn is one of the team members in our current Farm to School Institute cohort and continually ensures that students have access to delicious and nutritious local foods. She goes the extra mile by allowing students to see their own food traditions on the menu by introducing foods like Taro Root Stir Fry and Kimchi in their Try It Tuesdays program.
Thank you Brynn for being such an integral part of Oregon’s Farm to School community and we are so excited to follow along as you progress in this space! 🍎 To view the full article, visit newmansown.org/news/school-lunch-heroes-2026

Artists: bring your work to Portland’s neighborhoods.
The Safe Blocks Program is offering paid placemaking opportunities focused on community safety and connection in areas most impacted by gun violence. These mural projects are part of the City’s broader strategy to reduce gun violence and are supported by a 2024 federal Byrne grant. Artists may apply for one or multiple mural opportunities, though only one project may be awarded per artist. Up to $50,000 is available per project.
In partnership with David Douglas School District, students and community members will help shape each project through local visioning sessions.
Create something meaningful. Support community. Apply by Monday, May 18 at 4 p.m. to lead a placemaking project in East Portland.
Visit the city’s website to learn more.
