The UN is careful about using the word famine. In the past 20 years, only a few food shortages have. Reed has a long tradition of humanitarian activism. In the 1930s students picketed a N**i ship docked in Portland harbor. In the 1980s students took over Eliot Hall to protest apartheid in South Africa. Students and alumni are engaged in humanitarian efforts across the globe, such as Namaste Kathman...

We're looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals to help us advertise our fundraiser in April. We will be going door to door in the surrounding Reed neighborhoods to canvass and hand out fliers on Sunday, March 25th from 12-4pm. Hey Reedies, Portlandians and all artists and craftspeople!

Do you paint, draw, sculpt, knit, bead or do anything else creative and want to help out a great cause? Reedies for Somalia is looking for art donations to auction off at our fundraiser on Saturday, April 7th. We are accepting anything from hand-knit scarves to paintings. All proceeds will be donated to the organization Islamic Relief USA to help to combat the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa.

Reedies for Somalia has some good news: we were voted #19 in Funding
Poll!

Many thanks to everyone who helped make it happen. Your support helps
us organize a wonderful event to raise awareness and funds for
on-the-ground relief for Somali famine victims. Speakers, advocacy
opportunities, and delicious Somali and East African cuisine will all be
featured at the event.

We'll keep you updated in the coming months about developments and
opportunities to be involved.
