“Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning. Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God.” (Joel 2:12-13)

Ash Wednesday is tomorrow, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. For those on campus this week, Mass will be offered in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher at 12:05 pm and 5:00 pm. You can learn more about opportunities for entering into Lent via our Campus Ministry webpage.

“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)

Merry Christmas to our UP community!

Today is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, celebrating the conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary without original sin. Campus Ministry will offer two Masses, at 12:05 pm and 5:00 pm, in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher to mark this special feast day. All are welcome.

A gentle reminder to all Catholics that the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is a holy day of obligation.

Tonight! Join us in celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe! 🌹

Our Lady of Guadalupe is an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, who appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531 on Tepeyac Hill in what is now Mexico City. Patroness of Mexico and the Americas, Our Lady of Guadalupe is a powerful reminder of how Mary, through God’s power, stands with the poor and oppressed.

Please join the campus community at 7 pm at the Bell Tower plaza, where we will begin with a procession around the academic quad in honor of Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe. A prayer service in the Chapel will follow with music provided by local Mariachi. Finally, join us after the prayer service for some traditional food. All are most welcome.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

“There stood by the cross of Jesus his mother Mary, who knew grief and was a Lady of Sorrows.” (Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Constitution 8.)

Mass will be celebrated at 12:05 pm and 5:00 pm tomorrow for the Solemnity of our Lady of Sorrows (September 15). We will pray for all of the sorrows and intentions that the UP community has shared. All are most welcome.

As a reminder, you can still submit an intention via up.edu/campusministry, where you can find more details about this special feast day.

(This mosaic of Our Lady of Sorrows hangs in our Chapel of Christ the Teacher.)

The One Body Initiative is back! New theme, same great structure.

Participants in One Body join a 6-week small group and meet once per week for community, reflection, and discussion. Groups are facilitated by a student leader and run from September 27th through November 8th. Our theme for the fall is fullness of life in Christ: what this means for us, what holds us back from experiencing it, and how we can live into it. Many students have shared with us how meaningful these group spaces have been for them over the last year!

Find the registration link at up.edu/campusministry.

Curious about exploring some of the big questions around faith? Looking to ask why you believe, what you believe, and why it matters? Campus Ministry invites you to sign up for our Alpha program! Alpha begins on Monday, September 13th at 7 pm in the Terrace Room in the lower level of the Commons. There will be desserts, conversation, and community as we explore these questions surrounding faith. Sign up via our website, and contact Fr. Jim or Fr. Tim with any questions!

"Our insistence that each human being is an image of God should not make us overlook the fact that each creature has its own purpose. None is superfluous. The entire material universe speaks of God's love." - Laudato Si, Pope Francis

Tomorrow, September 1st, is World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation! As we continue to see the effects of climate change on our world, we pray for perseverance in our efforts to care for the earth and all creatures. Such efforts require sacrifice, but Pope Francis' words remind us of the joy we find in caring for creation, all of which "speaks of God's love.”

Join us in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher for this limited series over the next three Wednesdays – beginning tomorrow!

Each edition of Chapel Chats will focus on a question related to faith. Students will hear from a small panel of staff and faculty as they reflect on their own experiences. Tomorrow’s panel features Dr. Shannon Mayer (Physics) and Dr. Steve Mayer (Chemistry), two of our wonderful faculty members!

Evenings will also include the opportunity to learn about upcoming programs in Campus Ministry. If you are interested in exploring faith while at UP, this is a great way to get started. See you tomorrow!
