🎂 Today we celebrate the birthday of Maria Montessori, the visionary who reminded the world that “The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”
As we honor her legacy, we’re also excited to begin the 2025–26 school year at the Montessori House! Since 2009, our community has been a place where children, families, and teachers come together to grow, learn, and thrive. 💚
This year, we look forward to deepening that sense of community, nurturing children’s independence and joy, and celebrating all the ways Montessori education continues to transform lives.
✨ Here’s to a new year, new beginnings, and carrying Montessori’s vision forward together.

As a proud provider in the Preschool for All program, I am writing to share my deep concern about Governor Kotek’s recent efforts to undermine a program that is already transforming lives in our community.
According to Willamette Week, the Governor sent a letter to Chair Vega Pederson misrepresenting our tax base and the realities of this program. Even more troubling, there are now reports that she may attempt to use the final days of this legislative session to preempt Multnomah County’s ability to collect the very tax that funds universal preschool—a tax that voters approved by a wide margin.
This is personal. Every day, I see how Preschool for All is making a difference for families—helping them afford housing, groceries, and the basic stability they need to thrive. It’s also making it possible for providers like me to open and expand classrooms, hire qualified staff, and give children the nurturing, high-quality learning environment they deserve.
Universal preschool is a long-term investment in our community, not a political bargaining chip. It’s a proven strategy to fight poverty across generations and support working parents—especially mothers—who can return to the workforce knowing their children are safe and supported.
What’s most upsetting is that the Governor’s justification for interfering in this program is based on fear-mongering about wealthy households leaving Multnomah County. But the data tells a different story: the number of high-income households here has grown steadily since 2019. We cannot let a few millionaires and billionaires hold our children’s futures hostage with threats they rarely act on.
Multnomah County voters were clear: we want universal preschool. As a provider and community member, I urge the Governor and the legislature to respect the will of the people and let Preschool for All continue as promised—fully funded, with its ten-year plan intact.
Our families, our children, and our future depend on it.
