Sweet scenes from Children's Day a few weeks ago!

Grades students celebrated Japanese traditions through making koinobori 🎏, creating original family crests, and folding origami kabuto (samurai helmets) from newsprint.

Community is at the heart of Cedarwood ✨

Whether it’s sharing coffee in the courtyard while children play, gathering for seasonal festivals, or simply lingering a little longer at drop-off, these everyday moments of connection are what make this place so special.

This Saturday, we’ll carry that spirit aboard the Portland Spirit for our Spring Gala—a joyful evening supporting the life of our school and the community we’ve built together.

There’s a whole world waiting just outside the classroom doors 🌿

Pots become treasures, bark chips turn into kitchens, and a handful of petals is all it takes to begin a story. Here, play is open-ended and full of possibility—children follow their curiosity, work with their hands, and learn through doing.

Digging, pouring, gathering, imagining—these small moments build confidence, coordination, and a quiet sense of independence. There’s no rush, no right way—just the rhythm of discovery unfolding at its own pace.

May Day is this Friday 🌼
A celebration of spring, community, and joy in motion.

Each year, we gather to welcome the season with flower crowns, music, and shared traditions. The whole school comes together—students, teachers, and families—to celebrate beauty, rhythm, and connection.

In Waldorf education, festivals like May Day are part of the seasonal rhythm of the year. These moments intentionally mark the turning points in nature—helping children feel grounded in time, place, and community.

Swipe to see a few highlights from past years’ festivities—we can’t wait to celebrate together ✨

Soup Days in the Early Childhood classroom 🍲
Small hands at work—peeling, chopping, helping.

Children are given tools that meet them where they are—a crinkle cutter or vegetable peeler, and eventually a small knife—building skill and trust step by step. Through each careful cut, fine motor skills grow, confidence builds, and a sense of contribution takes root.

In our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms, learning unfolds through meaningful, hands-on work—nurturing curiosity, independence, and a deep connection to the world around them.

In handwork, each grade takes on a new project—carefully chosen to meet students where they are in their development.

In fourth grade, that means cross stitch 🧵 Stitch by stitch, students build fine motor skills, strengthen coordination, and practice focus and patience in a tangible way.

There’s a natural rhythm to the work—quiet, steady, and calming. It’s a chance to slow down, concentrate, and take pride in creating something by hand.

Each finished piece reflects not just skill, but care, persistence, and a growing sense of confidence.

Yesterday was an exciting day at Cedarwood as we hosted our school's elementary division championship! Over the course of several months, these students have read 16 incredible books, learned them inside and out, and worked together closely as a team. The competition was a nail-biter as we watched these amazing kids answer really tough questions and push through intense tie-breaker rounds. In the end, Grateful Read reigned victorious and will go on to represent Cedarwood at the regional competition in a couple weeks!📚🏆Congratulations to all the teams that competed and blew us away with their knowledge, comprehension, tenacity and heart ❤️
Reading Rangers, Boba Books, Banana Books, Pickled Pages, Book Beetles and Majestic Peanuts...you rock!
