SMB Technologies Cybersecurity Tip: Why small businesses are prime hacker targets
Recent case: A local accounting firm thought they were too small to be targeted. Hackers monitored their accounts for three months before launching a $175,000 ransomware attack.
Why small businesses?
Often lack enterprise security
Quick to pay ransoms to avoid downtime
Have valuable customer data
Connected to larger companies
Current average ransom: $150,000 average downtime: 21 days recovery costs: Often 3X the ransom
Protection: Advanced security monitoring can spot attackers before they strike. Let us check if someone’s already in your network.

SMB Valuable Blog: How ‘We’ll Fix It Later’ Turns Into Summer Fire Drills
How ‘We’ll Fix It Later’ Turns Into Summer Fire Drills
Taking a reactive meet approach to IT might not feel like a problem in the moment.
Most issues start small: a system slows down, a warning appears, or something feels slightly off but still works. Because nothing is actually broken, it gets pushed off in favor of more immediate priorities.
Work continues. Everything seems fine.
But those small issues don’t stay small, and when they surface, they rarely show up one at a time. That’s what turns a normal workday into a fire drill. And in the summer, those fire drills hit harder.
With key people out of the office and schedules less predictable, even routine issues take longer to diagnose and fix, affecting more of your team in the process. What could have been handled quietly in the background turns into a disruption everyone feels.
Here are a few of the most common ones we see:
The “it’s just a little slow” system
It usually starts with a system that’s slightly slower than it should be.
Nothing stops working, so no one reports it. People adjust by waiting a few extra seconds, refreshing their screen, or trying again. Over time, that slowdown becomes part of the routine. Until one day, it stops working altogether.
Now your team can’t access what they need, and work begins to stall. People start troubleshooting on their own, restarting devices, guessing at the issue, or looking for temporary workarounds.
If the person who normally handles it isn’t available, it takes even longer to figure out what’s going on. What could have been a quick fix when the issue first appeared now turns into downtime that affects the entire team.
The update that keeps getting postponed

SMB Technologies Cybersecurity Tip: You clicked a link by mistake. Now what?
No matter how diligent you are about security, there’s always a chance you can get fooled into clicking a malicious link or opening an untrusted document. That’s why you need to put a plan in place NOW to protect yourself and your CLIENTS, so damage is minimized.
But what should you do when you click THAT link by mistake?
Don’t assume you’re fine because nothing happened. Hackers have intentionally designed their attacks so that you don’t know anything has changed. You might not think anything was accessed or downloaded, but that may not be the case.
Hackers often hide for months in a network, not making any “moves.” Why? They want to find out as much as they can about their victim, like how much money you have to pay a ransom or what type of data you have that they might want to sell.
What do you do? Contact your IT department (us) IMMEDIATELY. The faster we can address the threat, the better your chances are of preventing much bigger problems. We’ll go to work on conducting a full scan of your network and/or taking the appropriate actions to protect you.
