Curious Gardeners Preschool will have two full-time openings starting after Labor Day (9/6/2022)! We are hoping to enroll students with birthdays between September 2018 and July 2019, but may consider older or younger students. We would also consider families interested in 4 days/week rather than 5.

Curious Gardeners Preschool

Curious Gardeners is a food-education-focused, play-based preschool serving children ages 2 through 5 in Portland, Oregon. We are located in Southeast Portland, just south of the Woodstock neighborhood and are licensed to care for up to 12 children per day.

At Curious Gardeners, we strongly believe that every child has the right to a rich and joyful childhood. We get our hands dirty in the garden, run, climb, create art, cook, sing, dance, laugh, and engage in pretend play together.

Our growing in-home family child care is looking for a Preschool Teacher/ Early Childhood Educator who can help to create a fun, loving, intentional environment for our children and incorporate developmentally appropriate practices that assist in our children's development. The Preschool Teacher will be responsible for monitoring and co-teaching our mixed age group of 2 to 5-year-olds, as well as helping with the daily tasks involved in keeping the school running smoothly. We are looking for someone who loves spending time outside whatever the weather, is interested in healthy food and cooking, and loves spending time with young children. Our ideal candidate is someone who is open to learning, communication, and feedback, and has a desire to always be working as a team toward being the best teachers and care givers we can be. Previous experience in a family child care or other child care center is a plus.

In addition to our preschool program, in July 2020 we intend to start a small infant care program. We are looking for someone who would be interested in participating in the infant care program occasionally in addition to working with the preschoolers.

Desired Qualifications:

Age Groups: 2-5 year olds; Infant care
High school degree
Current enrollment in Oregon's Central Background Registry a plus! Background Check with Oregon's Central Background Registry required before employment begins.
Required trainings to be completed within 30 days of employment:
- Infant, Child, and Adult CPR and First Aid
- Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
- Child Care Food Handlers Training
- Safe Sleep Training

Here’s wishing a happy 4th birthday to one of our oldest. We celebrated yesterday with balloons and birthday cake play dough! Celebrating birthdays in preschool is such a great way to teach our children how to celebrate others and show them that we care. It also helps the birthday boy or girl build confidence and feel that they are important in the life of the school and important to their friends🎈🎂🎈

A Valentines potion-making extravaganza in our covered outdoor area today! Start with your very own jar and some colored water. Add a dash of Himalayan sea salt, some evergreen needles, a few red lentils, and top it off with a pink heart gem or two- the perfect valentines concoction! ❤️🧪💎❤️

The start of a beautiful friendship🤞🙃

Earlier in the week we decorated our Valentines “mailboxes” (coffee cans!), and today we made cards and added them to our friends’ boxes. Making cards was one of the many ways our students came up with to show friends and family that we love them! 📫✉️💕🥰
