The curriculum at Kenilworth Community Preschool is informed and influenced by best practices in early childhood development and incorporates the insights and ideals of the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Why we start the year with pom poms in the sensory bin 🌈
They're colorful, soft, and instantly inviting — the kind of thing little hands can't resist reaching for. Pom poms are also the perfect low-stakes way to teach one of our first sensory bin rules: the items stay in the bin. And if a few do escape? Easy cleanup and no lasting mess. Learning the boundary feels low-pressure for everyone. Bonus: all that pinching and scooping is great fine motor practice. 💛

Before the first day of preschool, we have a practice day. 🎒 Families ran through check-in, played with new friends, discovered favorite toys, and connected with their teacher — all in the same room they walk into on day one. Same art studio setup. Same provocations. Less "new," more "I already know this place." So when it's time for drop-off on the first day, nothing feels new. Just familiar, and full of confidence. 💛

A KCP parent made this — a little social story book to help their child know exactly what to expect on the first day: arrival, the teacher, what our space is like - the classroom, bathroom and play yard, and the friends they'll meet.
They made it for their own child, then shared it with the whole class — because before the first day of school, these families have already met each other. That's the KCP difference: parents meet, connect, and build community before their kids ever set foot in the classroom together.

No instructions. No "right way." Just paint, cardboard scraps, and however many tiny artists wanted a turn.

This one lived on our wall for days — egg cartons, paper towel rolls, layers on layers. Every kid added something. Every day it became something new.
That's the whole point. 🎨
