Trauma Term Time!
Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA):
A temporary disruption of blood flow to the brain that causes stroke-like symptoms. In trauma patients, TIAs and strokes most often result from carotid or vertebral artery occlusion.

Our February Article of the Month looks at Advanced Oxygen Therapeutics.
Blunt cerebrovascular injuries (BCVIs) significantly increase the risk of inpatient ischemic stroke, affecting nearly 10% of trauma patients—especially within the first 72 hours. Early antithrombotic therapy may help reduce this risk, but requires careful consideration. Vigilant stroke recognition and timely intervention by trauma nurses are essential.
