Your paraeducators shape student success

Most schools assign paraeducators to students with the most complex needs.

They are often the most consistent adult in a child’s day.

Yet they are often the least trained staff in the building.

Let that sink in.

Research shows trained paraeducators lead to:

πŸ“š More instructional time
When paras understand what drives behavior, they prevent disruptions. Less chaos. More learning.

🧠 Proactive behavior support
They use visual schedules. Positive reinforcement. Clear routines. Problems drop before they grow.

🀝 Real peer inclusion
They learn when to step in and when to step back. Students build friendships. Confidence rises. Independence grows.

Now look at the other side.

Without training:

🚨 Paras react instead of prevent
Behavior escalates. Class time shrinks.

πŸ” Students grow dependent
Adults hover. Peers pull away.

πŸ“‰ Outcomes suffer
And everyone feels the strain.

Challenging behavior ranks as the #1 training need reported by paraeducators, teachers, and administrators.

Yet many paras receive little or no preparation before stepping into high-need roles.

You would not hand a teacher a classroom with no training.

Why do it with paraeducators?

Training does not need to be complex.

Short, research-based videos.
Clear strategies.
Flexible access on PD days or in-building time.

When you invest in your paraeducators, you invest in:

β€’ Stronger classrooms
β€’ Calmer environments
β€’ More independent students

What would change in your building if every para knew how to prevent behavior instead of reacting to it?

Black Educators Can Help Decrease Drop Out Rates, Increase College Readiness. So This Philadelphia Man Created a Pipeline to Increase Number of Black Teachers In Classrooms - CBED Website 05/07/2026

It's Black Teacher Appreciation Day! πŸŽ‰
Today, we celebrate under the theme "Black Resistance and Joy: Celebrating Black Educators and Teaching as a Practice of Freedom" β€” and we invite you to honor the Black
teachers in your life.
Use this post as a chance to go into the comments and tag a Black teacher who made a difference in your life.

Only 7% of U.S. teachers identify as Black, while Black students make up over 15% of the K-12 population. Research shows that the presence of Black teachers in schools contributes to more inclusive and supportive learning environments. Black students who have had Black
teachers are 38% more likely to report feeling that they belong at school.
As we mark the 100th anniversary of Black History Month and honor the legacy of Carter G. Woodson, let's recommit to building the Black teacher pipeline because representation in the classroom is an act of freedom.
