One of the perks of attending a school in the heart of downtown Portland is collaborations & field trips! Our Advanced Dance class got to experience first hand the work of artist Pipilotti Rist by improvising dance in the immersive space. Through luminous color and moving visuals, Rist's work encourages viewers to explore their relationship with one's body, relationships, and nature. Thanks to PAM for allowing our students time to access this gorgeous space!

The NWA Science Research Program would like to thank the 32 participants who assisted with our summer biodiversity survey at Oswald West State Park! You helped make our project a success. Collectively, our team saw over 130 unique taxa of flora and fauna, from the temperate rainforest to the tidepools. Students did an incredible job in the field, using their observational skills to locate, identify, and photograph life in this state-protected marine reserve. From venturing into a dark sea cave to spotting different species of fungi, these observations will contribute to an upcoming research project for high school science students during the school year. Thank you to our dedicated families for your support and to our amazing students for your participation to collect data for this BioBlitz. We ❤️ Oregon.

The NWA Science Research Program would like to congratulate the 22 high school students whose outstanding original writing, artwork and poetry was selected for publication in the 2026 student anthology: Honoring our Rivers, featured in CLEARING Magazine. We would also like to extend our special congratulations to Sylvie Beers, whose stunning painting of an American Bittern was selected for the front cover, an incredible honor!

Congratulations to all of our student authors, poets and artists for this accomplishment. Many students worked in collaborative partnerships, with one student writing a poem and the other creating art inspired by writing. Through their work, our students may bring greater awareness to the rivers and watersheds that sustain our communities. We hope that their voices and creativity will help to inspire others to continue to protect and safeguard aquatic ecosystems and the diverse life within them.
