Training the Next Generation of Farmers and Ranchers in Oregon

OFC’s programs combine hands-on training, classroom learning and farm-based experience on a diverse network of commercial family farms in Oregon. OFC offers real world opportunities for both the beginner and the aspiring farmer seeking in-depth training to launch their own farm business. OFC’s land-based network includes farms and ranches in Oregon’s Rogue Valley, Willamette Valley, and Portland a

reas. Led by dedicated mentors and agricultural professionals, RFC offers opportunities to learn organic vegetable, herb, seed and flower production, animal husbandry and a diversity of marketing and distribution techniques.

Farm Launch Applications are open for the 2026-2027 cohort!

Are you a beginning farmer or rancher, ready for your own operation but not sure how to start? Oregon Farm Corps’ Farm Launch Program is currently accepting another cohort of 15 beginning farmers and ranchers who are ready to start or who have recently started farm businesses!

From October to March, Farm Launch will combine group learning with one-on-one technical assistance and coaching. OFC staff work individually with farmers, providing personalized support to help participants develop a business plan and advance their farming goals. Meanwhile, industry experts will shed light on critical business topics with real life examples and best practices. The cohort will provide a space for peer-to-peer learning, mutual support, accountability, and relationship building.

There is an opportunity to apply for a scholarship within the application. Please apply by September 28th, the earlier, the better!!

Join us on September 9th from 3pm-5:30pm to learn all about Seed Production and Saving!

As part of Oregon Farm Corps’ Farmer Training Programs we coordinate a series of educational events including farm tours, classes, and discussion groups for aspiring and beginning farmers.

The events are designed as an introduction to sustainable and regenerative farming production concepts. The focus for this tour is Seed Production and Saving. We will discuss concepts around thinking of seed as a farm product and look at some methods for harvest, drying and cleaning seed. These events are designed for those new to agriculture, currently or previously working or volunteering on farms.

We will have TWO events happening at the same time, one in The Willamette Valley and one in the Rogue Valley! Click the link in our bio to register!

Last month we got to visit one of our OFC Apprentices, Jason, at Food For Lane County Youth Farm! FFLC Youth Farm operate on 25 acres of land in Eugene and grows food that is distributed to food assistance programs, and that is sold at their farm stand and through their CSA.

Jason shares that he’s really enjoyed the crew and everyone he gets to learn from. Through the Apprenticeship program he also attends classes both virtually and in person with OFC. “I’ve learned so much this year it’s insane! Having the different classes and different methods and perspective has been amazing.”

Join Snake River Seed Cooperative growers and co-owners Casey O’Leary (General Manager & grower, Earthly Delights Farm) Kelly Kingsland (Board member & grower, Affinity Farm), and Jessica McAleese (grower, Swift River Farm) to learn more about the way the cooperative functions and why it matters to collaborate to steward regionally-adapting seeds for a changing climate and a hopeful, more abundant future. We will talk about their transition from an LLC to a cooperative and how their seed cooperative operates. We’ll have plenty of time for Q+A, so come with your questions and curiosities!

Nopales in the house! 🌵🌵Earlier this season the Willamette Valley Chapter Apprentices were able to visit Plaza de Nuestra De Nuestra Comunidad’s Garden and receive a tour and Cactus propagation demo from Elva, who is the Organic Garden & Community Engagement Coordinator. We also got to go home with a cactus!

Plaza serves hundreds of families each year, giving them access to grow their own food in Eugene. They started the first ever community beekeeping class in Spanish in the area! Thanks so much to the Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad for having us!
