Such sound advise. No matter what age!
15 Things I’m Learning
1. Humility is astonishingly under-rated these days. Better to hold onto those you love than hold onto your pride.
2. Honest and open communication solves so many problems and saves so many relationships. It stops drama in its tracks and takes away the need to make assumptions or guess what’s going on. I don’t know why so many of us are scared of it. It really is step number one to mature friendships.
3. There’s always a chance you might get hurt. There’s always a chance it might not end the way you hoped. There’s always a chance it won’t work out, but research shows we are happiest, fullest and most best selves when we are well-connected with others. One of the best things we will ever do is get over our fear and start doing life with other people.
4. Not everyone is going to like you. It’s fine. Be yourself. Let others be themselves and allow the cards to fall where they may.
5. It’s gotta come from within—your confidence, your self-assuredness, your ability to move through the world with freedom. It can’t come from what you look like, what you own, or validation from others. That sense of truly knowing who you are and being okay with it—it’s gotta come from your heart. It’s the only thing that can’t be taken away.
6. Just tell the truth. Being an honest person is more important than being a pretty person, a successful person, or a well-liked person. If you can’t be honest, I don’t know how you can be anything.
7. Rest is so essential.
8. Hold yourself accountable. Look in the mirror. Own your faults. Keep your side of the street clean. It’s another thing terribly under-rated in our culture, but you won’t grow until you’re capable of addressing the places where you come up short.
9. Don’t let anything or anyone make you bitter. Having a bitter heart is like walking around poisoning yourself. Please please please find a way to heal. You deserve it.
10. Friendships aren’t about doing it perfectly. It’s about showing up. It’s about putting in the effort. It’s about trying and finding someone who knows that’s enough.
11. Be aware of what’s going on, but be hard to offend. It’s all easier when we remain unbothered and unassuming.
12. Popularity isn’t what it seems, I promise. It’s better to have a couple of true friends than a whole mess of people who would trade you in at the drop of a hat. Choose people who choose you. It’s not about the size of your circle. It’s about the quality of your circle.
13. We all need to be intentionally having more fun.
14. Cut others some slack. Life is hard.
15. Cut yourself some slack. Life is hard.
Love,
Amy
