Amber Milavec got her first computer at age 10 and taught herself to code. She is now a Principal Technical Architect at Nike where she works on highly scalable cloud-based systems and runs a community event called the We Code Hackathon for Women and Friends. Amber also loves retro video games and baby animals.

Barbara Miner, Ph.D retired from 25 year engineering career at Intel. As one of the few “technical females” working in process development, she managed an electron microscopy lab that analyzed the atomic arrangement and composition of newly invented materials for next-generation microprocessors. A highlight of her career was giving a lab tour (and tutorial) to President Barack Obama. As an encore career at Saturday Academy, she developed and directs a program Girls Engage Technology aimed at sharing her passion with young girls. In five years at Saturday Academy, she has taught introductory courses in programming and product design to more than 1000 fourth and fifth grade girls.

Our team spent last Thursday at the Bethany Village Concert where we got the opportunity to promote FIRST in our local community. The 3D printed robots from ORTOP definitely added a fun touch to our booth, and many of the kids left with huge smiles on their faces!
