On Dec. 15, 2021 Aikido Portland held its first Dan exam since the COVID pandemic began. Congratulations to our new black belts, Johanna Norton and James Smith!
Aikido in North Portland Aikido (合気道, aikidō), is a form of Japanese Budo, a path to self improvement based on martial art techniques.
The goal of our study is not to defeat or control others, but to defeat and control our own egos. Students work as partners to study dynamic throws and powerful pins. Please Help!
Aikido Portland would not exist if not for the generosity of Peninsula Odd Fellows Lodge. We will cease to exist if the lodge folds under the hardships of the COVID19 shutdown.
Due to COVID19 the lodge was not able to hold its annual fundraiser in April and their storefronts are all closed. The lodge has been helping North Portland since 1894. Now they need our help! Please donate on their service page: http://www.keepportlandodd.com/Service.html

Aikido Portland will remain open unless and until Portland Public Schools close for the safety of students. In the meantime, we are taking the following precautions:
1) All students need to use hand sanitizer or wash their hands thoroughly before bowing on to the mat and again after class.
2) We are focusing on weapon techniques, solo training, and evasions.
3) We are avoiding all hand grabbing and face contact techniques.
4) We are disinfecting all weapons between classes.
5) Disinfecting the mat with Simple Green antiviral/antibacterial spray has always been a part of our routine in order to prevent staph infections.
