Happiest of birthdays to Master Gil Johnson, founder of Traditional Taekwon-Do Kwan and heart of the school.
This photo was taken when Master Johnson achieved 7th Dan back in 2019. He continues to teach and guide his students with wisdom and strength. We wish him all the best for the upcoming year and all the years to come!

Brown belt Raphael Elbaz represented Traditional Taekwon-do at the Tae Kwon Karate Center friendship tournament today, and he did it well. He won first place in sparring and first place in forms.
Unfoturnately he was the only student from our do-jang to compete. Several of our students who planned on going got sidelined by a virus that swept through this past week, but a lot of others could have showed up. Another tournament may happen in late spring/early summer.

Promoted to purple belt on Sunday, Andrew Rogers is Student of the Month for January.
When Andrew Joined us 18 months ago, we could see that despite considerable strength, he was not a natural athlete. He has worked hard consistently and now his movements are more fluid and he has gained flexibility that makes his kicking better. He also has helped the school in last year's remodel and always is a positive influence in class.
Criteria for Student of the Month:
Frequent and regular attendance
Progress in taekwon-do skills and knowledge
Contributions to Traditional Taekwon-do and its students.
Adherence to the Five Tenets of Taekwon-do.

Sixth Dan Mark Lockie has been named Student of the Year for 2025.
This year marks Mr. Lockie's 30th anniversary in taekwon-do. He started at Traditional Taekwon-do in 1996 at age 14. Now 44, he still retains his legendary quickness and intensity in sparring. His competitive mindset has honed the skills of virtually all of the black belts who followed him.
In addition, he is an encyclopedia of information on the 25 forms we practice and in the past year, he has been teaching more frequently. Currently he teachers our Sunday class.
For Mark, we wish him another great 30 years in taekwon-do, by which time he will almost be as old as his instructor is now.

Get fit and have fun by enrolling in our Taekwon-do classes! It's an activity that can be done by the whole family. And it also is a place where you will make new friends. Taekwon-do is a Korean martial art that employs a variety of kicks and punches as well as grappling techniques for self defense. But also, it is a great workout for the whole body and and the same time, helps people attain a calm and purposeful state of mind.
People who study Taekwon-do report that their training helps them achieve difficult goals in all aspects of their lives. We currently hold classes six days a week. You are welcome to observe and and all of these classes. When you join, we give you an initial private lesson and then provide beginners classes at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, with other classes optional.
