Overlooked urban medicines are dreamy 🤩🌸🌿! Some recent sightings:
Borage - An uplifting flower that’s easy to grow, super fun to add to the dinner plate.
Mallow - One of the showiest w**ds you’ll ever see, and slimy in the best way!
Wild carrot - An excellent carminative, whether it’s super feral or a recent garden escapee.
Mullein - An oft-maligned w**d that’s a useful ally for wildfires, airborne chemical exposure, & colds.
Linden - Hiding in plain sight, a tree with heart-lifting flowers & an intoxicating scent.

Join us for an upcoming plant walk!

The first CSH share from Medicine Garden .medicine.garden was distributed yesterday! The Community Supported Herbalism subscription gets members a ton of fresh herbal goodness to make into food, medicine, or sometimes even garden plants 😍. This month featured remedies like California poppy, milky oats, spearmint, and chamomile (each bag was different, since subscribers can choose their herbs), and Gradey was giving out bonus content in the form of delicious garlic scapes 😋. It was super fun to chat with plant lovers as they picked up their bounty!

A couple highlights from this week’s classes: Meeting (and squeezing!!!) milky oats on Thursday and going on a forest field botany walk on Wednesday. Bunchberry, huckleberry, and gooseberry were all representing.

Not pictured: Ethically wildcrafting and replanting an abundant native medicinal; Going in-depth with the kidney/urinary system, including UTIs; Discussing formulation with herbs, including giant snot balls in tinctures (and how not to make them!).

Many thanks to for the lovely forest shots!

Go on a walk! Each city block has cool medicinals growing where you can see, smell, and touch them. Here are a select few from tonight’s stroll. 🩷🌿

If you didn’t make it to your local farmers market this week, put it on your calendar! These photos are terrible, but the goods are stellar: At the today, had fresh chamomile for sale (!) and fresh elderflowers by pre-order; .roxy had native plant starts (featuring a real gem, agastache!); and our ride or die had farm fresh eggs, spring peas, fava beans, tulsi starts, and all the green goodness.

Folks think of farmers markets for veggies & breakfast treats, and that’s true — but herbalists have lots of great resources available to shore up what they can gather at home. 🌱🌸🍄‍🟫🌿🌺🌼 Community rocks!

How it started/How it’s going:
Missy found some Boletus rex-veris mushrooms — otherwise known as spring kings or porcini. So far, they’ve gotten sautéed, dehydrated, made into a frittata, and added to risotto. What do you like to do with porcini mushrooms?

Keep your eyes peeled! You never know what you’ll find. The forest is filled with treasures.

It was such a fun day at ! There were plant starts, veggies, and dahlia tubers for sale; craft areas for kiddos; live music to picnic next to; and of course a medicinal plant walk! The sun was perfect and we saw some very chill garter snakes enjoying it, too.
