Registration is open for the 2026 Spanish Spelling Bee – Oregon! This event gives dual-language bilingual students in grades 4–8 the opportunity to showcase their Spanish spelling skills and compete with peers from across the state.

Date: April 22, 2026
Location: Canby SD

Each school may send one top speller per grade level (4th–8th).

Patricia “Pati” Lerma’s journey is so powerful 💛
After once sitting in Oregon classrooms as a newcomer, she is now a first-grade teacher in the Canby School District, and the 2026 OABE Dual Language Bilingual Education Teacher of the Year.

“Dreams do come true when we believe in ourselves, when we work with determination and perseverance,” Lerma shared. “Especially when we love what we do.”

Pati teaches in a K–6 dual language immersion program at Trost Elementary.

Dual-language bilingual students across Oregon are invited to participate in the Annual Spanish Spelling Bee!

This is a great opportunity for 4th–8th grade students to show their Spanish language skills and compete with peers from around the state.

We are now accepting applications for elementary and middle school Dual Language Immersion Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year! Submit your application to our pool posting and get hired ahead of the curve.

Candidates must hold or be eligible to hold an Oregon teaching license with an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and/or Bilingual Spanish endorsement. They must also be fully bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

The goals of dual language immersion programs are to develop bilingualism & biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural competencies for all students.

MENTE Student Scholarship — Application Closes February 27, 2026

The purpose of the Mente Scholarship is to encourage and provide Latine males the opportunity to further their academic and technical potential as they prepare to become future leaders. Selected scholarship recipients will be awarded a one-time $1,000 scholarship for higher education. Mente will award high school seniors and/or current college students who plan to continue furthering their education. Beaverton School District is actively seeking dual language (Spanish/English and Mandarin/English) educators. An in-person Dual Language Connection Event will be held on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026 from 4:30 - 7 pm at the District Administrative Office. This event is a great networking opportunity for interested dual language candidates.

Please join us to connect with BSD administrators, meet other bilingual educators, and learn more about dual language programs in BSD!

Our event will include:

Education Leaders for Oregon’s English Learners (ELOEL).

What makes this program special?
Scholarship covers up to $11,500
To date, the program has been no-cost for participants
Designed for fully licensed K–8 teachers currently teaching students designated as English Learners
