100 ways to explore eggs, final part:
We used wooden spoons & wooden eggs + spring dance music to practice balance! First, we walked around in a straight line with our egg, then we tried different challenges like skipping, hopping, and dancing with our eggs. The children laughed and laughed as their eggs fell to the floor. Itâs also a great way to showcase that itâs okay to get up and try again! We are moving on to 100 ways to explore spring next - stay tuned!
Reminder that our tour spots are filling up! We have one part time(M&F) & one full time spot M-F! Our hours are 8-5 p.m & we are located in Bridlemile / SW Portland.
Come tour our magical preschool đť

100 ways to explore eggs,
A project series:
Today, we decided to get in the kitchen & do a little crash course on making scrambled eggs! We decided they would be better with some cheese & bacon too! and even better.. everybody was safe while cooking today! We start cooking courses as early as 2 at Emerald, and the children did a wonderful job & we all had a family-style breakfast gathering after!
Learning how to cook at a young age is beneficial for toddlers in numerous ways. Firstly, it fosters a sense of independence and self-sufficiency as they learn to prepare simple meals or snacks. This early involvement in food preparation also promotes healthy eating habits and encourages them to appreciate a variety of nutritious foods. Additionally, cooking provides opportunities for sensory exploration, fine motor skill development, and cognitive growth through following instructions and problem-solving. Moreover, cooking with toddlers creates valuable bonding experiences with caregivers and cultivates a positive attitude towards food and family meals. Overall, teaching young children how to cook sets a foundation for a lifetime of culinary skills and a healthier relationship with food.

The hundred languages of children is a major philosophy within the Reggio-Emilia method of teaching. We are so inspired by this at our private school, Emerald Jade Early Learning.
During traditional American holidays, I always ask myself âhow can I teach this in an inspiring, organized, and meaningful way for the children, without harming any family beliefs, holidays they celebrate at home, and traditions each individual child already practices?â I am always brought back to this 100 languages theory system. The next few weeks, we will be exploring â100 ways to use and explore eggs during spring time.â
Project Idea: Our adult/guide/teacher tells the children a story about a bunny who has to go shopping for eggs. She is hosting a huge celebration, and she needs a very correct amount of eggs to have at her party. She sends invitations to each friend, and they send number cards back with the amount of eggs they would like. The children work at a farm, and they will help us succeed in this goal. We placed the card in front of the bunnyâs house (that the children also helped us build!) and they chose the correct amount. These imaginary stories without pages, illustrations, or printed words can be so incredibly meaningful for learning. It is a very open ended way to include your child in where they want the story to go, what animals will be the characters, and to help inspire them to latch on to the ideas within the verbal story. You can include props, puppets, stuffed animals, and so much more to enhance these provocation based stories. They are so much fun, and it makes learning mathematics so easy for littles!

Yesterday, we discussed and defined good behavior by using eggs! Our teacher would tell us micro stories such as âa little boy is sad and you decide to draw him a pictureâ and if we thought it was a kind action, we put the eggs nicely in place within the carton. If we thought the story had an un-kind action within it, we would drop the egg on the ground. The children had a lot of fun with this, and it was a fun motor skills & gentle hands practice way to learn and explore our boundaries of kindness, and a great way to enhance kind language & activities in our little lives! This was a class favorite. Sometimes, it really is the simple things đ¤

Some stories never get old, and at our preschool, âThe Hungry Caterpillarâ will always be a favorite. This story is a great way to teach things like wellness/eating, life cycles, process art, imagination play, and so much more. We use this story in several different ways utilizing the Reggio Emilia philosophy here at Emerald Jade. This week, we will be posting our spring celebration & Easter inspired art & activities - so keep an eye out if youâre looking for some neat things to do with your kiddos!
We are still enrolling full time & part time schedules here at this bridlemile / SW Portland preschool, you can inquire here on Facebook or email us/call us!

We are over the moon.. learning about space! So far we have covered constellations, the moon, planets, astronauts, gravity, craters, and meteors! I need to be better at posting our activities on here, with small tutorials so those of you following at home for curriculum know how to do these activities!
CRATER ACTIVITY:
ingredients: corn starch OR baking soda, non-scented conditioner, water.
Directions: mix these ingredients (baking soda as the base) until you get a milky sand type feeling. It should stick slightly together like snow, but also be able to fall apart.
Once mixed, you can put into a circle lid to represent the âmoonâ and grab some of your favorite marbles or stones to have your child drop down on the moon to enforce craters to manifest.
The kids love this activity and love seeing the different size craters each different stone created, and also experimented on how hard to drop or throw down the rock.
If our curriculum sounds like it would be fun for your child, and you can travel or live close to bridlemile⌠we still have spots left for preschool!
