This week’s Art & Hair is Animation & Cosplay. Inspired by the Adora character from the DreamWorks/Netflix 2018 reboot of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (original 1985), WWS-PDX’s Service Dept. - The Wig Station styled this wig for . It was requested for the top bump to go into a curl. The Wig Station will style your wig to meet your requests! Check all of the services The Wig Station can offer .
Fun history note: The activity of cosplay dates back to the 1970’s in Japan when college students dressed up as Manga and Anime Characters. The term Cosplay became popular after Nobuyuki Takahashi came up with the term (Kosupure) with friends when writing an article for the 1983 June issue of My Anime. The term is a portmanteau of Costume and Play.

Some fun hair history today from my hometown of Chicago. (The Chicago star is even in our logo.) The Hump Hair Pin Manufacturing Company was started by Sol Goldberg in 1915 in Chicago. Goldberg’s U-shaped wire with its non-rust satin enamel finish had a few crinkles on the side was known as the “hair pin with the hump.” Just as businesses are having to pivot today, Goldberg had to do the same when hairstyles trended shorter and became what we know as the “bob”. He shifted his focus and created the Bobby Pin to save his business.

This week’s Art & Hair is the “Hedgehog” (Herrisonne) from the mid/late 1780’s in France. The style that followed was very similar called Coiffure a l’Enfant. Both of these hairstyles were created by Leonard Autie. Leonard was the mid/late 18th century’s celebrity coiffeur creating many of the popular hairstyles in Paris.

The painting inspiration is Antoine Vestier’s - Portrait of a Lady with a Book (1785). Vestier was a french miniaturist and painter of portraits. Miniaturists painted the portraits that would fit into lockets. I have always loved small things and find that little fact so fascinating.
