Haley Licon, one of BMB's graduate students, won the "best technique award" for her poster at the PMCB retreat last month. The title was "Post-transcriptional regulation of the NT3 purine nucleobase transporter is mediated by a repressive stem loop in the NT3 3' mRNA untranslated region during the Leishmania donovani purine stress response." Congratulations, Haley!

Check out this fun and informative interview with Greg Martin (Shyng Lab), Eric Gouaux (affiliate BMB faculty member and Senior Scientist in the Vollum Institute) and Craig Yoshioka (Gray Lab, OCSSB) on OPB, in which they discuss the new $128M NIH grant to build four new cryo-electron microscopes here at OHSU. This grant is poised to make the university into a nationally recognized imaging center - one of only three in the country - when the microscopes are installed this fall.
New OHSU Microscopes Will Image Constallation Of Molecules The National Institutes of Health is paying $128 million to build three new cryo-electron microscope centers around the country.
Congratulations to Raj Shah, BMB Grants & Contracts Coordinator, for his selection as an associate trainer with the OHSU Unconscious Bias campus-wide initiative. Raj will participate in a week-long training process in August and then will be responsible for leading unconscious bias trainings all over campus over the next year.

Congratulations to Greg Martin (Shyng lab), recent BMB Ph.D. graduate, on receiving the John A. Resko Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award! This award recognizes outstanding contributions to biomedical research in the School of Medicine, and was awarded to Greg for his dissertation entitled, "Elucidating the structure of the pancreatic ATP-sensitive potassium channel by single particle cryoelectron microscopy." In addition to this award, he also earned the Outstanding Journal Article Award.

We just wrapped up recruitment week with a jointly hosted event between the BMB and PMCB departments. Several prospective graduate students were treated to a dinner at Dr. Show-Ling Shyng's home. Looks like a great time!

Congratulations to Dr. Matt Thayer for his recent selection for the John A. Resko Faculty Excellence in Research and Mentoring Award. Dr. Thayer was awarded the honor during the 2017 Graduate Studies Honors and Awards ceremony held on Saturday, June 3. The Resko Award is given to a SoM Graduate Faculty member who has a sustained record of high quality research as well as a strong record of mentoring graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows in their laboratories and subsequent careers. Well-deserved Dr. Thayer!
