Happy AAPI Month! Last Friday, BT alumna Kathy Xia () taught a Chinese Folk Dance workshop to our 6th and 7th graders. Our students learned a phrase from a piece she choreographed and performed earlier this month, titled Jù Lǚ Chéng Chóu. This work explored themes of connection, community, and the beauty of Chinese cultural traditions. We are grateful our students had the opportunity to learn and celebrate the rich tradition of Chinese folk dance, exploring musicality, movement quality, and different fan techniques.

Many thanks to Professor Katie Glasner for working alongside ELA teacher Jared Van Zweeden to teach our middle school students about Cinematic Dance. Students discussed dances they see in films as well as online, and how those differ from live dance performances. These workshops wrapped up a year of our students practicing dance writing and learning how to think critically about dance.
We would like to congratulate Katie on her retirement after 30 years as an educator at Barnard College!
