ONESPOT is an app-building company. As with some of us involved in music education, I have looked into the advantages of presenting our knowledge through an interactive app. Yesterday I had a long and eye-opening conversation with Sean Cann, who owns and created ONESPOT. I found him dedicated on personal as well as business levels to the best development for his clients. He did not solicit this mention. I have been neglecting this page and I apologize for that. Specifically, the lesson package offer of March, 2020 was later amended to be $500.00 for ten lessons and then completely discontinued on June 1, 2021. If interested, Internet lessons are $100.00 and in-person $150.00. We are happily on our various ways toward a new way of life. Many blessings.

If you are seated at a table in conversation with someone, your voices are modulated to that distance. If you are 20 ft apart, a different dynamic; 50 ft apart, another dynamic. At no time did you take a special breath, consciously engage this, that or another muscle or group of muscles in order to accomplish the task. Your imagination perceived the need and your intention asked of your body whatever was necessary to be heard at the varying distances. Build your voice, your vocal body, to BALANCED strength and flexibility commensurate with the style of music you want to sing and you can turn the music over to your imagination for performance. Singers are the only musicians who are both instrument and player. The instrument is the vehicle for the expression of the player's imagination. Build it BEFORE you ask it to express your feelings. Got an interesting question, "Why did you retitle your book?" This is where it took me:
There came a moment when the original title, SINGING, Nature’s Gift to You, while accurate in my intention to present the inborn natural ease of singing, did not speak pointedly to the what? and how? of my understanding. I think that it should.

A book about the nuts and bolts of singing is not a weekend or beach read. Those who study with me will use it as a reference between sessions. For others I want to provoke critical thought. I want my readers to develop awareness of the feelings that thoughts create. Then I want them to realize that, when ready, singing is a psycho-neural expression that can only be controlled when abandoned to the imagination.

Answering a question about trouble with the break in a prospective student's voice, I wrote: The "passaggio" is a misunderstanding resulting from the application of too much air pressure and cord opening as one sings up the scale. There comes a point when the vocal cords, in an act of self preservation, radically adjust to a smaller opening with less breath pressure - the reason that above the "passaggio" the sound is frequently unsupported, nearly falsetto, - appearing as a break in the scale. THE TRUTH is that every note in the scale passes to the next, up or down, with concomitant adjustments of the body brace, the cord opening and the pharyngal shaping. That is the point of the Great Scale: to show you the only adjustments needed for each note; adjustments engendered by thought, not conscious physical "doing".
