Meet Natachi Chukumerije, Science, Test Prep, Humanities, and Math specialist!! Triple Master Degrees – Biomedical Sciences (UPitt), Narrative Medicine (Columbia), English Literature (Yale). Undergrad from Johns Hopkins in English, with a minor in Classics and Psychological and Brain Sciences.

Natachi is the quintessential Renaissance woman! While studying pre-med and English at Johns Hopkins, she was also a cartoonist for the Johns Hopkins Newsletter and a member of two theater groups. She continued this trend at Yale, doing physiological research at the School of Medicine and performing with the Yale Drama Coalition on the side.

Natachi continues her Renaissance woman abilities in the world of tutoring. She has tutored the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, and multiple AP Exams from English to Chemistry. She has also worked with students on general research, college applications, and academic essay outlining and drafting.

Natachi believes learning is an opportunity for students to discover the best versions of themselves, whatever that means to them. Her background in neuroscience allows her to help her students connect their schoolwork with real world competency and focus their skills in order to achieve their goals.

While not tutoring, Natachi loves traveling and cultural exploration, playing piano, yoga, reading, theme parks, painting, drawing, and taking care of her plants. Want to learn more?

Meet Kathy Li, Math, Science and Test Prep specialist!! Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics expected 2022 from Columbia University. Masters from Columbia, Harvard undergrad. National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Columbia Presidential Scholar. Illinois State Scholar. National AP Scholar. 36 on ACT, 2280 on SAT, 800 on SAT II Math, 780 on SAT II Biology.

Originally from the Chicago suburbs, she moved to the East Coast for college. Kathy has been volunteering and teaching since high school. As the daughter of a principal, she learned early on that teaching build community as well as strengthening students’ confidence and knowledge. Kathy volunteered as an ESL tutor for adult and elderly students throughout high school and college, serving as the Director of Harvard’s Chinatown ESL program. She was a teacher for the Refugee Youth Summer Enrichment program at Harvard, designing and teaching an English curriculum for immigrant high school students. She also tutored math and physics and was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard.

Kathy loves connecting with her students and helping them to build skills, confidence, and their excitement to learn. She believes trust is the most important part of teaching a student, and she always works to understand each student’s needs and learning style.

Kathy is completing her Ph.D. at Columbia. Her research involved developing predictive models for mobile health data. When not studying or teaching, she loves to foster rescue dogs, find new coffee shops in the city, and enjoys her creative hobbies, such as wheel throwing!

Meet Lydia Jackson, Coursework, Science and Test Prep specialist!! Chemistry Major, Dance Minor from Washington University in St. Louis. Scholarships from Joffrey Ballet School and Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory. Principal Soloist with The Rogue Dancers.

Lydia has always loved both the arts and sciences. She attended Pembroke Hill, one of the top schools in her hometown of Kansas City. At Pembroke, she pursued her interest in science, competing with their nationally ranked Science Olympiad team and taking college level science courses. She furthered her pursuit in college, taking classes such as Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry at the doctoral level.

In addition to her studies, Lydia also began tutoring during college at an afterschool program. After college, Lydia moved to NYC to focus on dancing, training at Joffrey Ballet School and producing short dance films. She also continued her work as a tutor, both independently and with a national tutoring company before joining CET. She has over 5 years of experience, tutoring over 1000 students on the SAT, ACT, and biology and chemistry coursework, both one-on-one and in small groups. Lydia believes in customizing instruction for each student, to ensure their success beyond the material and into their future. She enjoys helping to build a student’s love for learning as they master concepts previously deemed impossible.

Lydia brings her dance experience into her sessions to add creative fun to keep younger students engaged and provide new perspectives to older students. This creativity allows her to find the exact right explanation for each of her students.

Lydia is currently pursuing a graduate program in Physical Therapy. While not tutoring or dancing, she loves tea, taking photos, and filling her apartment with plants. Want to learn more?

Meet Ava Rosenbaum, Languages and Humanities specialist!! Double major, Magna Cum Laude, in Poli Sci and Hispanic Literature and Culture from Brown University. William F. Fichter Prize winner in Hispanic Studies. 2240 on SATs, 790 Spanish SAT II, 780 U.S. History SAT II. Score of 5 on 5 AP Exams, National Merit Finalist.

A dual Spanish / American citizen, Ava grew up in NC and spent summers in Madrid. At Brown, she studied a variety of humanities subjects including international relations and history and foreign languages. She was mock trial team captain and published articles in Harvard Business Review Turkey and Brown Political Review. She studied abroad in Granada, Spain and was selected for Brown’s Historical Memory Fellowship, conducting a year-long research project just published by the University of Barcelona.

Ava began tutoring at Brown and is now based in Madrid as an English teacher and tutor, also working with students on foreign languages. While tutoring, Ava encourages students to experiment and push their boundaries to foster a growth-mindset. She works on gaining a robust understanding of concepts instead of memorization and models curiosity and interdisciplinary-thinking throughout the tutoring process.

Meet Ruby Letang, Master Tutor in Languages, Math and Test Prep, specialties in advanced college level coursework in econ and math!! Ruby has a lifelong love of academics and teaching. After Harvard, she went on to study Multivariate Calculus, Linear Algebra, pure mathematics (Sets, Groups, Topology, Real Analysis), graduate level Micro and Macroeconomics, Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Stochastic Calculus.

Ruby has been tutoring for over 10 years, beginning at Harvard as a peer tutor with the Bureau of Study Counsel and tutoring low-income students in MA with the Philips Brooks House Association. After graduating, she worked as a private tutor for a national tutoring agency and a boutique tutoring company in NY before joining CET.

Ruby tutors both individuals and small groups and customizes her approach to the needs of each student. She believes that asking questions to lead students to find the correct reasoning and answer builds an understanding of the material versus memorization. She creates simple, basic examples to illustrate difficult concepts, which her students appreciate. When not tutoring, Ruby writes narrative non-fiction testing the extent to which natural boundaries affect the rate of change in population settlement patterns… and also likes foreign films!
