34 years ago today, on a sunny, warm day just like today, my husband and I got married by the Honorable James T. Giles, the federal judge I clerked for after law school. He was appointed by Jimmy Carter and, in the 40 years since my clerkship, Judge Giles and I have changed careers, lost loved ones and remained good friends.

Life is a lot about developing, nurturing, appreciating, maybe ending or losing relationships. It’s not always easy which is one reason, as I reflect on my own anniversary, that Jimmy Carter’s long marriage to Roslyn Carter is often in the news.

If you’re struggling with relationships and it’s interfering rather than supporting your growth or your career, please email me for a free consultation. [email protected]

Physical Fitness vs. Mental Fitness

To become more physically fit, we normally know exactly what we should do, when and why. It’s the doing that takes big effort!

Mental fitness is different. Without it, we feel stress, self-doubt, frustration, regret and a whole lot more. We cling to a bad habit or go back to the same drinking fountain but never get the relief we seek.

But how do we build mental fitness, eliminate the “saboteurs” and produce positive emotions and clear-headed, laser-focused action? It’s not always obvious. It can even be a big mystery.

If you’re interested in improving your mental fitness, please reach out and let’s solve the mystery! I’m offering a 7-week boot-camp program, through Positive Intelligence, starting February 20th. The program is easily done even if you work full-time, are traveling or on vacation. You’ll feel better, be more productive and smile more often. Promise.

Not all trees are straight…

Most things, except redwood trees, tall buildings, pens and pencils, have curves, whether we like it or not.

Take careers for example. They can go straight up with no breaks but more often, especially these days, go sideways, around and possibly even backwards. Some disappear! But, the curves, bends and breaks we experience build character, confidence and insight.

If your life, career or a relationship is throwing you a curveball, remember that there is a gift and opportunity arising from that difficult situation. It may not be obvious at first, or initially desired, but it is there.

If you’ve had a difficult situation which became a gift and opportunity, please share it!! If you rarely see the silver lining in anything, maybe it’s best to connect with me.

Sometimes, one person with a smile, one breath of fresh air, one tree against a blue sky can make all the difference between feeling down and feeling good. What's one small thing you can bring into this world today?

In Tennis, Racket Smashing Gets Out of Hand 04/01/2022

What's wrong with this picture? Everything! nyti.ms/36PiShw "Racket Smashing Is Out of Control" and these tennis pros aren't taking cues from Will Smith. They've been smashing and throwing their racquets for a long time. The vast majority are men. Either the rules aren't clear, the penalties aren't stiff enough or the players need more coaching. If you want to develop more mental fitness or feel like smashing a racket, please contact me!

In Tennis, Racket Smashing Gets Out of Hand Long accepted as an entertaining idiosyncrasy of the sport, the act of hurling one’s racket has led to some close calls, as ball people and chair umpires dodge injury.

Impromptu Jack "Attack" 03/31/2022

What's wrong with this picture? Nothing! Exercising is always a plus. Combining that with an unexpected visit by a four-legged friend is even better. Never yearn for perfection but, when it happens, savor the moment!

Impromptu Jack "Attack" Nothing wrong with getting exercise and some attention from Jack at the same time. In fact, the unexpected visit of a four-legged creature might be perfect ...

It used to be fun and easy to be a tourist in Kyiv. It was a beautiful and colorful city with lots of interesting things to see and do. What happened is awful? It's time for everyone to wear yellow and blue.

I'm in Las Vegas where all things wild and crazy happen. But, today is Presidents Day and, amongst the slot machines, shows and casinos, it is fitting to remember Washington and Lincoln for whom this day is celebrated. Let their efforts and struggles never be forgotten.

Bikers Break the Rules 02/17/2022

Bike riding isn't always a simple matter. In fact, it can get complicated when rules are broken. If strongly-held opinions about rules or other things keep you from enjoying life, then it might be time to get a coach.
