REMEMBERING ROCHELLE OLIVER ||
A beloved and essential member of HB's faculty and member emeritus of HB's Board of Directors, Rochelle Oliver passed away on Saturday, April 13.

“Teaching acting meant everything to Rochelle; and HB gave her the outlet and the freedom she needed to teach her way. Thank you to the HB Studio community from the Oliver/Patterson family.” -John Patterson, Rochelle's Son

Those who knew Rochelle will know what a luminous artist, sensitive and passionate teacher she was. A beloved friend to Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof, Rochelle was a key member of the transition Board assembled by Richard Mawe to guide HB after Uta Hagen's passing. She continued as an active member of the HB Board and on HB's Artistic Council until 2022. Rochelle taught in HB's Hagen Core Program and in the Hagen Summer Intensive, acted and directed on the HB Playwrights stage. She worked with Horton Foote on the series of plays that became The Orphan's Home Cycle and were filmed for public television. Her career included Broadway appearances in TOYS IN THE ATTIC (Clarence Derwent Award), HAROLD, WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, HAPPILY NEVER AFTER, SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR; and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.

Memorial plans will be announced at a later date.

EVENT || HB Rehearsal Space Resident Artist, I Don't Wanna See That?!!?! presents...
THE MANNEQUIN PLAY

A folk-rap musical devised by NYC drag performers. The play follows a family of three mannequins, Sale, Glossy, and Liver, working at a department store in Bushwick as their store closes and ultimately separates them. The three are thrust into unfamiliar worlds and are forced to create new families while they try to reunite with each other.

I Don’t Wanna See That?!!?! is an alt performance art collective based in Brooklyn that specializes in the high art of cringe and community. We primarily feature drag, clown, burlesque, live music, stand up comedy, and experimental theatre. Our approach to all of our pieces is a complete blend of mediums. Our theatre involves drag and burlesque and clown. And our performance art events might as well be theatre. A true cross pollination of art and heresy. The collective believes that art should be viewed by everyone and not just those who can afford it.
