They follow this one student who ended up dropping out, despite having full scholarship and quite extraordinary support from his high school and to a smaller degree at college. This might give you some ideas and will be especially interesting to listen to for those of you who are planning to continue your education beyond BMCC.

Attention All Students and Families!!!

Open Enrollment for the New York State of Health Marketplaces Starts on November 1st. This means that during the open enrollment period an individual or family can change their insurance plan if they currently have a non-Medicaid eligible plan that they purchased on the NY State of Health Marketplace!!!

New this year residents of New York State can enroll in the Essential Plan for those who earned too much to qualify for Medicaid last year, but still found the private plans on the Marketplace too expensive, you may be eligible for a new low-cost option! New York State is introducing the Essential Plan, a health plan that costs much less than other health plans, but offers the same essential benefits.

How much does it cost? Either $20 a month per person, or NOTHING at all! It also has no deductible, so the plan starts paying for your health care right away.

In addition students may still enroll in Medicaid qualifying plans if they met the income guidelines all year long. International students and those without an official immigration status are eligible for health insurance as well!!!!!!

Please stop by the Single Stop Office in S235 to make an appointment or call (212) 220-8195. Health Insurance enrollments are offered on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

It was created by NYC Comptroller’s Office and is very helpful in narrowing down your choices by factors like location, fees and services. If you do not have a bank account, or you have a bank that charges you fees, check it out!!!! It’s very user-friendly!

The topic is going to be “Paychecks & Insurance”. If you work, have you ever wondered what those deductions on your paycheck were for? Some are taxes, but we’ll also talk about employee benefits that those deductions can pay for.
