BombaYo is a youth project dedicated to preserving the rich Afro Puerto Rican tradition of Bomba. Bomba is more of an experience than a show.

BombaYo took its name from several meanings of YO
Yo, is "I" in Spanish, or self - "I am Bomba"
Yo, English slang to call one's attention, as in "Hey, it's Bomba"
Yo' , short in English from Your, "Your Bomba"

Bomba was developed in Puerto Rico over 300 years ago by enslaved Africans from parts of West Africa and the Kongo region and also includes influences from the Spanish colonizers and native

Through workshops, cultural presentations, performances and partnerships, BombaYo engages communities throughout the NYC area to raise awareness of Afro Puerto Rican culture and to connect Bomba to the vast traditions of the African Diaspora.

Join us for Bronx Rising! Voices for the Earth at Bronx Music Heritage Center this Saturday March 18th, 6-8PM! The evening will open with poems by Tara Bracco and Karla Jackson-Brewer of Poetic People Power from the project Eco Rise, and then my band and I take us on a journey with a special climate justice focused set. I’m also excited to announce that we will be joined by BombaYo for the live premiere of our song together!

Admission: $7, $5 students/seniors, kids under 13 are FREE.
