One last ode to summer reading 📚☀️ Before we officially turn the page on summer, here’s a look at some of the places ISB students took their books this summer as part of the Snap Dragon Reading Challenge. From cozy corners to outdoor adventures, we loved seeing where their stories took them.

We wrapped up ISB Summer with our hallmark culture week. This year, our groups focused on hispanophone and francophone countries and cultures. Instead of taking a field trip, our Counselors and Staff came together to prepare an International Feast for the whole program to enjoy. Seeing the children excitedly checking their menu to make sure they were trying all of the dishes was truly special. Even our pickiest eaters were risk-takers and tried new foods — and loved them!

In the Cityscapes/Cityworks Week at ISB Summer, we learned about the engineers, architects, sanitation workers, and other city workers who make NYC tick. We had a wonderful program-wide field trip to the New York Hall of Science that tied everything together. They explored the hands-on Cityworks/Cityscapes exhibition; designed and built structures in the Design Lab, and engaged in the interactive Connected Worlds exhibit: an immersive fantastically animated world that explores how ecological systems relate and depend on one another to maintain balance and health.

From historical discoveries to sunny days spent playing and creating together, Week 2 of ISB Summer was filled with curiosity and fun! Building on the interactive timeline we began last summer, we explored the story of the Dutch, the first European settlers of New Amsterdam in our “Who Lives Here?” theme. A special highlight was our visit to the New York Historical Society, where we explored the New Amsterdam exhibit and imagined what life was like in the 1600s.

Looking back at all the fun we had at ISB Summer this season! 🌞 During Week 1, our Flora & Fauna 🌿🐾 theme came to life with a special visit from wildlife rescuer Leslie Hyder, a wildlife rescuer who focuses on the often forgotten creatures such as raccoons, opossums, and skunks. She brought all of these animals and more to campus, and the children were enthralled learning about these important animals that often get an undeserved bad reputation.
