My name is Irene and I'm trying to reach all parents who might be struggling with their kids in school. I am a special education teacher who's offering remote one on one in all subjects. My preference is kindergarten to sixth grade. I've worked for the Board of education since 2005 and I've also been a private tutor for just as long. My passion has always been to help students succeed academically. Nothing is more rewarding than that. I would love the opportunity to help your child overcome any difficulties they might be having. I will work very hard and I don't quit. If anyone is interested or knows someone who is please send me an email [email protected] or send me a private message. We can discuss further details once you've reached out to me.
This week we'll be joined by Torsie Judkins, Director of Admissions & Enrollment at the International School of Brooklyn to continue our discussion on specialty programs at independent schools, this time focusing on language immersion and IB programs.
Highly recommend https://EasyVirtualChoir.com, super easy to use, and it is FREE! The software aligns audio/video tracks automatically and generates virtual choir videos instantly. Users have created videos for choir, band, chamber music, virtual rehearsal, online music teaching, choir dance, audition, recital, singing with sign language, drama practice, foreign language learning, skit etc., or simply for fun with friends and family. Educators have used it to integrate music, teacher instructions and student participation into one video. It’s a great visualization tool and virtual platform combined, especially useful for online classrooms. The entire process is so intuitive, simple and fast for both teachers and students, that many k-12 school teachers got a video created with 15-40 kids after just one class period. Remote music classes and online rehearsals have become so much easier with this software, which has made teachers thrilled, students delighted, and parents pleased. Hope this free service will help your students too!
Rendez-vous en ligne le 18 novembre à 12pm ET pour une session d'information sur les écoles primaires privées bilingues à New York et dans le New Jersey.

As part of their unit of inquiry, "Happy, Healthy Me", the Kindergarten classes went on field trips to Battery Urban Farm in Battery Park. At the farm, students harvested their own vegetables, including leafy greens, tomatoes, string beans, peppers, and even cucamelons. Then, our Kindergarteners cleaned, dried, and chopped their vegetables. Finally, they combined them all to make a delicious salad that all students tried, and most students enjoyed—some going back for seconds!

Quentin Stallworth, '20, is a junior in the Film Department of Art and Design High School. Quentin recently wrote a screenplay that was accepted by @ReelWorks Narrative Lab, a nine-month workshop that allowed him to turn his script into a short film.

Quentin reflects, "my film ended up quite different from how I had envisioned it; it's much better thanks to my mentors, instructors, and the many other professionals in the film industry I met through the program."

Quentin's film, No Ratings, No Reviews, will be on view at the Reel Works Festival this Sunday, October 2, and he will participate in a panel discussion following the screening. Get your tickets now!

Last week, our 6th and 7th Graders went on team building trips to the South Mountain YMCA in Reinholds, PA. At South Mountain, our students began a progressive journey aimed at strengthening each class’s ability to collaborate and work together towards common goals. They shared delicious meals, scaled a climbing wall, competed at Gaga Ball and class-wide games of Capture the Flag, and navigated a ropes course. The groups also completed a series of challenges to build communication and problem-solving skills. With all the fun our students were having, we thought they might never want to leave!

Our 3rd Grade classes just began their first unit, Systems in Society. This unit focuses on how humans create systems to manage and allocate resources. Their “tune in” goldfish activity was based on the tragedy of the commons and was aimed at helping students understand that we always need to invent systems in order to be able to live together as a society, and that these systems can easily become unsustainable or unfair.

In the spirit of ISB’s sustainability theme for the school year, Muriel Stallworth’s French 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade Art students cut last year's patterned and colored paper into small pieces to prepare collage packs for student use. Students will also help refurbish the Art Room’s cleaned watercolor palettes and cut out packaging cardboard for future art projects. The combination of sustainability and creativity can be a beautiful thing!

Happy Earth Day! This year's Earth Week at ISB was centered around the theme "Indigenous Advocacy Against Climate Change". On Wednesday, the ISB Faculty and Staff planted a pollinator garden, guided by Visual Arts Teacher Muriel Stallworth. This activity highlighted the work each of us can do, even in an urban setting, to help insects and birds pollinate our plants (and food supply) while beautifying our spaces and fighting against the loss of biodiversity. By planting these flowers, we hope to inspire all members of the ISB community to follow the extraordinary leadership of Indigenous Tribes in the fight against climate change. When the school day was over, faculty gathered by the newly planted flowers for the reading of a Land Acknowledgement written by Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director Sakai Troxell. This planting event was complementary to the posters lining the Preschool hallway showing Indigenous leadership in fighting for justice, managing the land in regenerative ways, reconciling ancient and modern scientific knowledge and values of generosity, reciprocity, and community.

This upcoming Wendesday, April 27, from 6pm-7:30pm, all ISB parents, staff members, alumni families, and students in 5th Grade and up are invited to attend "Translation is an Art", an exciting panel discussion 6:00pm-7:30pm featuring experts from the ISB community and the publishing world!

At ISB, translation is part of everyday life. Whether in the hallways, the classrooms, or in our extraordinary Library, students are constantly jumping between languages while listening, speaking, reading, and writing. To celebrate this forward-looking approach to multilingual education, panelists Omar Berrada, Claudia Zoe Bedrick, Juan Pablo Lombana, Emma Raddatz, Nathan Rostron, and Emilie Robert Wong will dive deep into the art and craft of translation. Exponential Growth with Singapore Math | International School of Brooklyn

When it comes to mathematics, do you have a fixed, mixed, or growth mindset? Students often approach their math classes with many preconceptions about their abilities before they even begin. ISB’s Math Department works diligently to help students shift their mindsets. Check out our blog post to learn more about how students are becoming mathematical experts in Lower School through our Singapore Math framework.
