17 years coaching strength and conditioning. Still a student.
Taylor Porter, Assistant Strength Coach with the Denver Broncos, came to the Dome of Strength last year to complete his SFG I.
He already had nearly 17 years of experience in strength and conditioning.
But the Dome opened a new door.
Afterward, Taylor wrote to me that SFG I had “completely opened my eyes to kettlebell training” and to using energy systems differently from what he had been doing throughout his coaching career.
Then he went to work.
He trained kettlebells 3 days per week while continuing traditional strength work twice per week.
And while preparing to complete the SFG sn**ch test, something interesting happened:
He didn’t lose his barbell strength.
He got stronger.
Back squat: 605 lb
Bench press: 365 × 3 — a personal best
He eventually completed the sn**ch test and told me:
“This has been life changing from a training perspective for me.”
But there was another part of his Dome experience that mattered just as much.
The people.
Taylor stayed in contact with the other students from his SFG I and credits them with helping guide and support him as he continued preparing for the test.
That’s the Dome.
It isn’t simply three days of instruction and then everyone goes home.
You train hard.
You get coached.
You get challenged.
You learn from people with very different backgrounds.
And sometimes you leave with relationships that continue long after the certification ends.
Taylor is now bringing those lessons back into professional football—and he says some of the Broncos players have become interested in adding kettlebells to their own training.
That is what happens when a good coach stays a student.
