RAG solves a common problem with large language models: they can hallucinate, miss long or proprietary context, or be stuck with outdated training data.

Instead of relying only on the model's parameters, RAG connects the model to external documents so it retrieves relevant evidence and then generates answers grounded in that content.

How it works
1) Index your content as embeddings and store them in a vector database.
2) At query time retrieve the most relevant passages.
3) Provide those passages to the LLM as context and generate a grounded response.

Why it matters
- More accurate and up to date answers
- Fewer hallucinations and clearer citations
- Customizes output to your domain without expensive fine tuning - Scales across knowledge bases and internal docs

Why doesn't ChatGPT know everything? While it can seem incredibly smart, ChatGPT's knowledge is limited by the data it was trained on and that means it doesn't automatically know current events, your files, or the latest company docs. Instead of live access, AI models learn patterns from huge amounts of past text and code. When faced with missing info, AI may confidently guess, leading to 'hallucinations.' AI doesn’t actually read words the way humans do!

Before a model can understand language, it converts text into tokens and embeddings. Embeddings are a numerical representations that help AI recognize meaning, similarity, and context.
