AI doesn’t actually read words the way humans do!

Before a model can understand language, it converts text into tokens and embeddings. Embeddings are a numerical representations that help AI recognize meaning, similarity, and context.

Next week: Transformers and Attention.

Neural networks power tools like ChatGPT, image generators, and much of modern AI. But what are they actually doing?

Neural networks learn through layers, improve through feedback, and have become the foundation of today's AI revolution.

Next week: tokens and embeddings.

Every week there’s a new AI tool you’re “supposed” to use.

What if instead of chasing tools, you learned to build your own?

We just dropped the full workshop on YouTube plus a GitHub challenge repo so you can code through it yourself from scratch. Don’t just use AI tools. Learn how they’re built.

Congratulations to our incredible Future Code 2 cohort on graduation! We are SO proud of the growth these phenomenal students have shown throughout the program, and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next.

What makes this community so special is that the growth extends far beyond just technical skills. These students have built friendships and support systems that will last long after their time at Codesmith.

We’re so excited for everything ahead for these amazing humans 💙

What IS AI?

It’s an umbrella of systems built to recognize patterns, make predictions, understand language, generate images, recommend content, and increasingly interact with the physical world.

The more data these systems learn from, the more human their outputs begin to feel.

Want to go beyond using AI tools and actually understand how modern AI systems work under the hood? Check out Codesmith’s AI/ML Technical Leadership Program.

What if your code didn’t just run in apps but moved in the real world?

Check out our latest workshop in which Will Sentance breaks down Physical AI and how software engineers can build systems that power robots and real-world automation.

Don’t just learn to use AI, learn how it’s built and applied to the physical world.

“I knew what to do… I just didn’t trust myself.”

Meg Schneider’s biggest challenge wasn’t syntax or systems. It was confidence.

Like so many engineers early in their journey, she had the right instincts but second-guessed every step.

Confidence isn’t instant. It’s built through practice, repetition, and proving to yourself that you’re capable.

If you’ve ever felt stuck but deep down knew the answer, you’re closer than you think.

Your system isn’t broken. It’s overwhelmed.

Rate limiting controls how traffic flows through your app so it stays fast, stable, and fair for every user.

In this guide, learn how rate limiters work, why they matter, and how to choose the right strategy for your system.

System design interviews feel overwhelming.

Millions of users. Huge systems. Where do you even start?

Here’s the reality:

It’s usually the same pattern.

- Scale it
- Cache it
- Distribute it

Break systems into smaller pieces. Store data efficiently. Avoid hitting your database on every request.

It’s not about memorizing answers. It’s about understanding patterns and trade-offs.

Most people learn how to use tools but real skill is learning how they are built.

In this workshop, Will Sentance walks through building your own OpenClaw and breaking down how systems like this actually work.

You can even code through it yourself step by step with the challenge repo!

Don’t just learn to use these tools, learn how these tools are built.
