Javier Garcia is an award-winning advertising executive, educator and entrepreneur. He possesses over a decade of experience studying, working in, and judging competitions in integrated communications, branding and entrepreneurship.

Introducing our Arts Guest Speaker: Christine Shepard!
βHi there!
My name is Christine Shepard and I am a performer from Columbus, OH. I moved to New York to study dance at Pace University in 2015 and haven't left since. I started my professional career sophomore year, performing on SNL and MTV. Junior year I made my Broadway debut in Head Over Heels and most recently I was in the Broadway cast of Mean Girls. I am currently recovering from a knee injury, but I continue to write poetry and short stories, sing, play the cello and style photoshoots.β

Our Story:
Beyond the Margins is a not-for-profit startup that elevates education for marginalized students, allowing them to explore career options and their passions. Our online platform helps NYC middle schoolers navigate the academic resources and community events that already exist in their communities. We offer students personalized, career-oriented guidance so that they can prepare and plan for their futures. Beyond the Margins is the 2019 grand prize winner of the Zahn Innovation Centerβs Social Impact Category. For more information please visit https://www.beyondthemargins.nyc/.
Position Summary:
We are looking for someone who has experience in early website development and also a team member who is passionate about education equity, especially in NYC.
Responsibilities May Include:
Weekly Meetings (either in person or on the phone)
Website maintenance until December 2019
Updates published on website including events, resources etc.
Sending out monthly newsletters
Updating survey questions periodically
Managing data from survey
Oversight on different online forums
Qualifications and Skills:
Major in computer science or computing is preferred but not required
Proficient in HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript
Proficient in Excel data collection
Hours:
Average of 8-10 hours each week.
Compensation:
$1,000 stipend upon completion of 4 months. Includes access to our networks along with professional development brought by the Zahn Innovation Center at CCNY.
