If you are like me, you have been struggling to figure out just exactly how we, as educators, are to broach the subject of the upcoming debates and election. It is hard enough for adults to talk about, much less for teachers to know how to approach it in a way that helps students understand the world around them, rather than to be confused by it; how to build them up as contributing members of society, while not knowing if what we might say might be misunderstood or misrepresented by their families.

I decided to look at it through my teacher lens, my teacher eyes; and I focused on conceptual learning and ideas that are common to us all.

What has resulted has been, what I hope you will find, to be a beautiful and age appropriate look at concepts such as debates, communication, leadership, and in general, elections.

3 different products; delicately and purposefully woven together, so that not only can they be used this Election Season, but they can be used in subsequent years. 2 of the 3 products can actually be used throughout the entire year, as they also serve to help build your own classroom community, relationships and language skills.

Happy New Year to everyone! It has been a hot second since I have posted on here or on my website, but the beauty of the winter break for a teacher, is that you have time to decompress, time to rest and time to rejuvenate; which for me, then leads to the return of creativity! I have had fun over the past few days as I update some of my most popular TpT products originally made for Smartboard, to be accessible on Google Slides and/or PowerPoint. Check out the latest from my website and take a gander at the Winter Sentence Builders if you are looking for some engaging and interactive practice on sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation and sight word recognition. And just like that the sun went down on the first week of school! Excited to be working with my new co-teacher Isaiah, to have such a sweet group of kids and to have an amazing group of energy giving co-workers! It’s going to be a great year!
