☀️📚 That’s a wrap on Summer 2026 at READ 718!

This week, we officially closed out an amazing summer of reading, writing, learning, and community across our Boerum Hill, Bed-Stuy, and Remote programs. 💛

From Ready to READ and Writing Workshops to Book Clubs and, of course, our core Summer Reading Room, we’re so proud of everything our young readers accomplished this summer — and so grateful to our tutors, families, staff, and partners who made it all possible. 📖✨

READ 718 will be closed August 17–28 for our summer break. We hope everyone enjoys some well-deserved rest, sunshine, and a few good books before we head into a new school year! 🌻📚

Summer reading isn’t about checking off a list; it’s about building a lifelong relationship with books.

Research from the Harvard Graduate School of Education reminds us that children are more likely to keep reading when they have choice, opportunities to talk about what they’re reading, and adults who read alongside them. It doesn’t have to be 30 perfect minutes every day. Even 10 minutes of joyful reading can help build confidence and maintain literacy skills over the summer.

Here are a few ideas to try this week:
📚 Let your child choose what they read.
🗣️ Ask questions that spark conversation.
🎧 Count audiobooks as reading.
❤️ Read together whenever you can.
🌱 Focus on consistency, not perfection.

Every story shared is another step toward raising a confident reader.

Week one of our Ready to Read Summer Program is officially in the books! ☀️📚

Students jumped into engaging reading activities, creative art projects, and plenty of opportunities to build community with one another. A huge shoutout to our amazing READ 718 team for making it such a successful first week!

A huge thank you to our incredible READ 718 community for joining us at our End-of-Year BBQ last week! ☀️📚❤️🖤 It was such a joy to celebrate another year of learning, growth, and connection with our students, families, volunteers, board members, and supporters.

We’re looking for an NYC Civic Corps & AmeriCorps Member to help recruit, engage, and support the incredible volunteers who make READ 718’s mission possible.

Another cycle in the books! 🎉📚

This spring, students across our Remote, Bed-Stuy, and Boerum Hill programs showed up week after week ready to read, learn, grow, and challenge themselves. From decoding new words to deepening comprehension and building confidence, we celebrated big and small milestones.

Our end-of-cycle celebrations were a chance to honor the hard work of our students, the dedication of our tutors, and the support of our families. Thank you for being part of a community that believes literacy is more than a skill: it’s a pathway to possibility.

We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished this cycle and can’t wait to see what comes next.
