Congratulations to the 2024 Charles H. Dow Award winners, Ralph Vince and Larry Williams, for their insightful research titled ‘The Ripple Effect of Daily New Lows’!

The CMT Association established the Charles H. Dow Award in 1994 to celebrate outstanding technical a**lysis research. Having reviewed over 260 submissions and recognized 27 exceptional papers, it is a prestigious honor in the field.

In fond memory of Greg Schnell...
December 14, 1961 – June 6, 2024


After earning his diploma in geophysical processing, Greg’s diverse and extensive career spanned multiple professions. A varied journey that began with sales, then to geophysical processor with Shell Canada, and adding experience with sales and marketing within the company to further fill out Greg’s resume. Greg was pivotal in developing a technical help desk with Shell Canada. Following Greg’s tenure at Shell, he used his expertise to gain success in the trucking and telecommunications industries.


In 2003, Greg discovered his true passion, the stock market. Greg was not only personally successful in the stock market and technical a**lysis industry, but he also believed in sharing his knowledge that led to the success of those around him, and in the market, through education. A designated ‘Chartered Market Technician’ (CMT) and ‘Master of Financial Technical Analysis’ (MFTA) Greg facilitated much success in the industry. This passion was infectious to those he advised.

By 2012 Greg was a respected member of the Technical Analysis community and frequently contributed to stockcharts.com. Stock Charts For Dummies, (Wiley,2018, co-authored by Greg) was where information was shared in hardcopy, beyond the digital world. A frequent online contributor to “The Canadian Technician”, “ChartWatchers”, and “Don’t Ignore This Chart” blogs, and finally founder of Osprey Market Strategies INC, where Greg able to share his extensive market knowledge to hundreds of followers. Through Osprey information was shared via hundreds of blocks and videos.

Greg joined the board of directors of the Canadian Society of Technical Analysts (CSTA) in 2009. Over the next 10 years Greg held multiple board positions including Calgary Regional Director, Secretary, Director-at-large, and always mentor. Although Greg resigned in 2019 from the CSTA Board, Greg remained active in educating those in the technical a**lysis field. His knowledge will live on, and his passing will be felt throughout the technical a**lysis world, and beyond.

The Charles H. Dow Award, established in 1994 by the CMT Association, honors exceptional technical a**lysis research. With over 260 submissions and 27 papers recognized, it’s a prestigious accolade.
