🌊 A Shark Older Than Nations? 🦈
Imagine swimming beside an animal that was already alive before the United States even existed. Scientists estimate that some Greenland sharks can live for nearly 400 years, making them among the longest-living vertebrates ever discovered.
Because these sharks don't have bones that reveal their age, researchers studied proteins in their eye lenses using radiocarbon dating to estimate how old they are. The oldest shark examined was estimated to be around 392 years old, although scientists note there's still a margin of error.
What's even more incredible? Greenland sharks grow incredibly slowly less than 1 cm per year and may not reach adulthood until they're around 150 years old. They're a reminder that nature still holds some astonishing secrets beneath the Arctic waters. 🌊❄️

Astronomers have discovered more than 6000 planets orbiting other stars—many of them small and rocky like Earth. But despite years of searching, firm evidence that such worlds have stable atmospheres has remained elusive.

Now, researchers report that the relatively nearby super-Earth LHS 1140b appears to be leaking helium gas into space, implying it still has a substantial atmosphere billions of years after its birth.

Because of the lack of water, only plants and animals adapted to dry conditions can survive there. Many people think all deserts are hot and sandy, but that's not true. There are different kinds of deserts:
Hot deserts, such as the Sahara Desert, with high temperatures and sand dunes. Cold deserts – such as Antarctica, which is the world's largest desert because it receives very little precipitation, even though it is covered in ice ☘️❤
