Students in Fieldston Upper’s Applied Engineering Research class spent the year ideating, prototyping, and manufacturing their own inventions, each of which is designed to solve a problem in the world.
Ranging from low-tech study timers to ergonomic airplane seats, the inventions were often a labor of love for the students, informed by their particular passions and life experiences. For many in the class, the project was also a culmination of their engineering career at Fieldston, as this year’s senior class was the first to take the full 7th-12th Grade engineering curriculum at Fieldston Middle and Upper. Check out Tuesday’s edition of Fieldnotes to learn more about each invention and the engineers who created them!

Fieldston Lower’s Spanish Assembly was filled with smiles and singing as students and faculty honored music from Spanish-speaking countries! Each grade performed a song for the community, and several students even showed their talents by performing solos or a duet. The atmosphere was joyous as students and faculty danced and celebrated together!

Congratulations to the Fieldston “Froshmore” Rube Goldberg team, who were crowned World Champions in the high school division of the Rube Goldberg World Championship on Saturday!
The students’ machine, “The Goldberg Museum,” was inspired by an art heist and featured dozens of steps, exciting theming, and brilliant engineering as their fictional burglar raced to steal the crown jewels in under two minutes. Their ingenuity and creativity were on full display in the contest, which featured over 100,000 students representing 12 countries! In addition to the World Championship, the team received the “Most Ridiculous” award and the “Best Final Step” award.
Congratulations to the entire team, to all of the students who participated in Fieldston’s Rube Goldberg Program this year, and Dr. Church, whose leadership has helped create this strong program!
Eagles, you made so many memories at Fieldston. We can’t wait to make some more with alumni from classes ending in 1’s and 6’s at this year’s Fieldston Reunion! There’s still time to RSVP and join your peers and teachers for an evening of celebration and community.

On Friday, our ECFS community celebrated Commencement for the Class of 2026!
With the sun shining brightly above them, student speakers Hudson Rabatin ’26, Saskia Sommer ’26, and Kiran Gangadharan ’26 reflected on their time at ECFS and reminded their classmates to treasure the memories they’ve made together as they move into a new chapter of their lives. We welcomed keynote speaker Dan Harris who shared lessons from his own experience of growth and change. After performances from the senior jazz ensemble and drumline, remarks from members of the School’s leadership, and a rousing rendition of the school song, students tossed their caps in the air and were officially welcomed into the ranks of Fieldston Alumni.
Congratulations, Class of 2026. We can’t wait to see how you soar!
Class of 2026, we’ll miss you. Congratulations! 🧡

Fieldston Middle students learn world languages through real-world frameworks, focusing on developing curiosity and confidence about grammatical concepts, media, and the culture that shapes the language they’re learning. From in-school scavenger hunts, to speaking practice on experiential learning trips, students are supported as they deepen both their language proficiency and cultural understanding.

Where’d all the time go? Before our Class of 2026 heads out into the world, we asked them to stop by and recreate some memories from their time at ECFS. While the classrooms and hallways may look the same, it’s clear that our students have grown and flourished in their years here.
