For 27 days in April and May of 1943, Jewish residents of the Warsaw Ghetto staged an uprising against their brutal N**i oppressors. The N**is were preparing to completely liquidate the urban prison and send off all of its Jewish residents to concentration camps.
On April 19th, 1943, the N**is invaded the ghetto with tanks, artillery, and other heavy weaponry, but were ambushed in all directions by the ghetto's resistance fighters--who were outnumbered and armed with just a small cache of weapons. Somehow, the resistance was able to fight off the N**is for nearly a month, but by May 16th, the Ghetto was in complete ruins and the Germans had killed or captured thousands of Jews.
Despite the eventual destruction of the ghetto, the uprising inspired other revolts in extermination camps and ghettos throughout N**i-occupied territory.
Today, in the center of Warsaw stands a monument (photo attached) commemorating the brave fighters of the resistance movement. May their memories be a blessing.
