Dear IKIF Friends from Jerome Rose: It is with sadness that we extend our condolences to the entire piano world. Ruth Slenczynska, one of the great personalities and artists who spanned an entire century, has passed. IKIF was very proud to have presented her. She became world famous at seven years of age and knew or had studied with every great pianist of her time. I, myself, have a Gold Medal with her image given to me by the Kimber Award of California. She is truly one of the very last of the “Golden Age of Pianists“.

A message from Jerome Rose: The International Keyboard Institute and Festival is very saddened by the news of the passing of Ann Schein. I personally knew Ann for practically 70 years, meeting her when she was very young in Washington D.C. I still remember her great performance of the Rachmaninov Third Piano Concerto at the Albert Hall in London. She truly was one of America’s greatest pianists. We loved having her at IKIF as she proved to be a both a brilliant pianist and teacher. She is truly unique in the pantheon of pianists.

Congratulations to IKIF alum Zitong Wang who was awarded Third Prize and Best Performance of a Sonata at the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Zitong was a scholarship student at IKIF 2024 where she participated in masterclasses with our faculty and performed in our Young Artists of IKIF concert at Klavierhaus.

We are very proud of the young Spanish pianist Guillermo Hernández Barrocal who has just won the First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Kawai International Piano Competition in Tokyo, Japan. Guillermo, who is 17, was a scholarship student at IKIF this summer and had masterclasses with Jerome Rose, as well as with IKIF faculty member, Martín García García. Guillermo will begin his studies with Jerome Rose at Mannes this fall.
