Last week, we broke ground at PS112 in the Bronx on a new soccer pitch—with more coming to schools in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.

This will be a welcoming space where our kids can come after school, lace up their sneakers, and just play.

Every community deserves a place like this.

Thank you to the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the NY/NJ 2026 World Cup Host Committee, and Airbnb for making it real.

Thank you to NYS Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie, NYS Senator Jamaal T. Bailey R, and NYC Councilmember Kevin C. Riley for joining us.

A message from Chancellor Samuels:

“Our new schools reflect a bold commitment to expanding access to high-quality, rigorous learning experiences for every student, in every neighborhood.

These schools are designed to meet the diverse needs of our communities, including creating seat capacity where needed, delivering innovative and culturally responsive instruction, and preparing students with the skills and confidence to succeed in college, careers, and beyond.

This is how we build a stronger, more equitable future for New York City.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to our new school leaders. Your leadership will set the tone for these school communities, and we are grateful for your commitment to our students.

Thank you to Dr. Shawn Rux, FDC Danielle Giunta, and the Office of New Schools team.

Thank you to New York City Council Education Committee Chair Eric Dinowitz, NYC Council Member Amanda Farías, and NYC Council Member Justin Sanchez for joining us.”
