When our fellow Texans need us the most, the Fort Worth Fire Department sends the right resources. 🚒🤝

When wildfire season is finds us every year in Texas, the people that are impacted in those communities throughout the state have needs that have to be met immediately. From putting out the fast-moving fires to providing lifesaving and emergent medical treatment and equipment, our firefighters are always ready to receive the call. That call usually gives them only a couple of hours to tell loved one's goodbye and to make sure they have everything they will need for a two-week deployment before they are on the road to help with their skills and knowledge packed with them.

🔥Wildland firefighters🔥- So far this summer we have deployed dozens of our wildland firefighters to fires throughout the state including the Saxton Fire, Herring Fire, Flat Rock Fire, Baker Fire, The Ranch Fire, Rio Escondido Fire, and the Ross fire.

🚙Wildland Paramedic Unit (WPU)🚙- worked alongside a Strike Team in some of the fire’s most challenging terrain. Using their Utility Task Vehicle (UTV), the crew helped scout the fire, locate flare-ups and hot spots, navigate and map remote areas, and provide rehab to crews working long hours in difficult conditions.

Wildland firefighting brings unique risks—from extreme heat and burns to chainsaw and falling-tree injuries. Having specialized medical personnel working right alongside our firefighters means help is already there when it’s needed most.

These deployments demonstrate the value of specialized medical resources that can go where traditional apparatus cannot—and the importance of Fort Worth's ability to support our firefighters and emergency responders, both at home and through statewide mutual aid.

🚑AMBUS🚑- The AMBUS provided advanced medical support for firefighters and responders, serving as a mobile medical resource capable of treating, stabilizing, and transporting patients. During the deployment, the crew and a State EMTF physician treated a variety of medical needs—from dehydration and allergic reactions to cuts, abrasions, and other injuries—helping keep responders on the front lines. With the ability to function as a mobile intensive care unit, the AMBUS brings critical medical capability directly to the incident.

These are some of the final recorded FDNY radio communications from inside the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

In the final minutes before the tower collapsed, firefighters were still climbing toward the impact zone, searching for survivors and calling for more men to come up.

Battalion Chief Orio Palmer had reached the 78th floor. Lt. Joseph Leavey of Ladder 15 was climbing toward him. With barely two minutes remaining, Palmer called Battalion 9 Chief Edward Geraghty and told him they had access to the floors above.

Geraghty's response: “All right, I'm on my way up, Orio.”

Seconds later, a Ladder 15 firefighter radioed that he was trapped in an elevator shaft: “We're chopping through the wall to get out.”

The radio signal disappeared shortly afterward. The South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m.

Orio Palmer, Joseph Leavey and Edward Geraghty were killed that morning. They were still going up while others were trying to get out.

Bridgeport among Several First Responders at Recent Structure Fire that Results in Unit being Destroyed

The Bridgeport Fire Department was among several agencies alerted to a call for a structure fire on Sunday, August 30.

The call came that evening at 6:44 p.m. to Harrison-Taylor 911. Multiple other agencies responded and were alerted to assisted as well.

Units arrived at the 2200 block of Philippi Pike in East View, between Clarksburg and Stonewood. Upon arrival, units observed, and reported, a working vehicle fire with exposures.

Upon further inspection, first responders noted that the vehicle on fire – an old school bus – was being used as a residence, according to the Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department. The fire did have exposures to an adjacent garage and other items on the verge of igniting.

Bridgeport Fire Chief Greg Pigg said his staff entered the garage area. They were looking for an extension of the fire, which he said they did not find.

The Nutter Fort Fire Department reported that the fire was quickly placed under control. They also reported that there were no injuries reported. No further information was available, but pictures from the NFVD page show the bus/residence appearing to be destroyed.

On Aug. 2, 1978, six FDNY firefighters made the Supreme Sacrifice while battling a fire at a Waldbaum's supermarket in Brooklyn. It remains one of the deadliest fires in the Department's history.

Twenty members were operating on the roof when the supermarket's center section suddenly collapsed, sending 12 firefighters into the flames below.

This morning, West Metro crews were conducting high-angle rescue training in a steep, rocky area near Morrison, west of C-470, when Firefighter/Paramedic Jarrod Leonard fell approximately 50 feet.
Jarrod sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Jarrod has served the West Metro community for more than 23 years and is one of our technical rescue instructors, helping train firefighters in the specialized skills needed to perform rescues in some of the most challenging environments.
Jarrod remains in critical condition and is receiving ongoing treatment and evaluations.
