Yale Early Decision 인터뷰 시즌이 시작되었습니다.

저는 Yale Alumni Schools Committee Member로서 벌써 3년째 인터뷰어로 활동 중인데, 이 역할이 주는 보람은 정말 특별합니다. 재능 있는, driven된 학생들과 만나 그들의 열정과 목표를 듣고, 그들이 꿈을 더 크게 키울 수 있도록 이야기해주고 격려할 수 있다는 것이 매우 의미 깊습니다.

특히 저는 차세대 한인 리더들에 대해 많은 생각을 하고 있습니다. 이제 우리 재단도 본격적으로 자리를 잡았으니, 앞으로 이사진들과 함께 Korean-American 학생들을 위한 멘토링과 guidance 프로그램을 구축하여 그들에게 실질적인 도움을 줄 수 있을 것 같습니다. Alan Kim JD, PhD 자문 이사님과 자세한 사항을 더 이야기하여 그 생각을 현실화해야겠습니다.

함께 더 큰 꿈을 꿔보자는 생각에 벌써 설렙니다.

Global Honors Society Foundation

Global Honors Society Foundation is progressing smoothly as we successfully established it and brought in talented individuals. We have completed the registration under our desired name and have filed Form 1023 to meet the criteria of a charity foundation.

I am truly grateful for the support we have received. We’ve already seen an increase in inquiries through LinkedIn and Instagram, with donors also joining our cause.

A special thanks to the ten founding directors, whose commitment to establishing the Endowment Fund with a substantial contribution has laid a strong foundation for the foundation’s success.

This all began with a long-held vision. My leadership experiences across various institutions, hospitals, and schools were driven by the goal of creating an NGO and scholarship foundation that embodies a grand ideal while fulfilling a flexible and challenging social role.

Our journey toward change will begin with the creation of a scholarship in Malawi, Africa. This will open the door for a range of activities, including lectures, conference collaborations, and research.

간호학 박사이시고 나랑 같은 예일대 공중보건대학원 출신인 이자경 박사님께서 이번에 우리 재단 자문 이사로 합류하셨어. 덕분에 이제 간호 연구와 공중보건 연구에 재단의 지원과 협력이 훨씬 더 활발해질 것 같아 정말 기대돼.

나도 그동안 꿈을 향해 끈질게 달려왔는데, 이렇게 함께해 주시는 분들이 많아서 정말 감사한 마음이야. 혼자서는 불가능했던 일들이, 주변의 좋은 분들과 함께하니까 하나씩 현실이 되는 것 같아.

세상에는 아직도 도움이 필요한 환자분들이나 여러 취약계층이 많잖아. 앞으로 함께 연구 프로젝트를 진행하면서 다양한 원인을 분석하고, 실질적인 대안을 만들어 실천에 옮기다 보면, 우리가 함께 세상을 조금씩 바꿔나갈 수 있지 않을까 싶어.

많은 간호사들이 Academia로 나아가지 않는 데에는 여러 이유가 있겠지. 낮은 연봉, 연구 실적에 대한 부담, 그리고 높은 헌신이 요구되는 환경이 그 이유일 수 있어.

특히나 지금 미국에서 미국 간호사와 NP 로서 받는 연봉만으로도 충분히 안정된 삶을 살 수 있기 때문에, 굳이 더 어려운 길을 선택하지 않는 경우가 많을 거야.

하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 박사 과정을 밟고 싶거나 교육자로서 역할을 하고 싶은 사람들이 있을 텐데, 그들이 도전하지 못하는 이유 중 하나는 정보력의 부족과 그에 따른 불안감일 거야.

나 역시 Nursing is STEM Board와 함께 어떻게 의료인들이 힘든 환경 속에서도 긍지를 가지고 일할 수 있을지를 고민하고 있어. 이 과정에서 동료 간호 연구자들과 끊임없이 대화하며 논문을 준비하고 있지.

누군가는 그 길을 걸어야 한다면 그리고 꿈을 가지고 있는 사람이라면 꼭 도전해보라고 말해주고 싶어..

중요한 건 용기와 끈기니까.

바쁜 일상에서 잠시 깨어 여기저기 기회의 씨앗들을 심어두었다. 앞으로 후배들 교육을 위한 Family Foundation이나, 내가 이루지 못한 꿈을 이어가기 위한 교육의 씨앗들도 모두 젊은날의 열망과 꿈이 담겨 있다. 시간이 조금 지난 후 크게 피어나서 그 목적에 맞게 쓰일 거라고 믿는다.

The "Nursing is STEM" Coalition Initiative has been launched.

This marks the first step towards formally establishing nursing as a recognized discipline within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the United States. This initiative seeks to redefine nursing as not merely a caregiving profession, but as a scientific field where advanced knowledge, technology, and research play a critical role.

Healthcare leaders, scientists, and professors are working together to ensure that nursing is acknowledged as part of STEM. Through this recognition, there will be increased opportunities for patient safety research, expanded financial support, and practical benefits such as extended OPT periods for international students.

At the request of the Board Director, I have accepted the role of serving on the Advisory Board and will lead the forthcoming International Initiative. The wave of change has already begun, and I am committed to fulfilling my role at the heart of it.

What is the Nursing is STEM Coalition?

The Nursing is STEM Coalition is an initiative aimed at recognizing nursing as part of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. This recognition would not only elevate the profession within the United States but also internationally, providing greater funding, research opportunities, and benefits such as extended Optional Practical Training (OPT) for international students. By positioning nursing as a STEM discipline, we aim to highlight the crucial role of science and technology in nursing practice.

As a board member and advisor alongside other nursing leaders in the USA, I am committed to supporting future generations of Korean nursing students and leaders who wish to come to the U.S. to further pursue their dreams. This coalition is designed to help them access more resources, opportunities, and career pathways that align with their aspirations.
