CCNY Planetarium

2016

2016 was the year I found the forgotten planetarium in the Marshak Science building basement. Later in the fall, I built a proof of concept projection system with a 20 dollar curved security mirror, some old wood, my laptop and Stellarium. The walls were white. There was no heating or cooling in the room, just a big a** fan. Most noticeable was the lack of any guests! A lot has changed since then. And we have a lot more exciting news to share soon! Let’s just say we should finally be getting padded seats soon!

Thank you to all who have helped bring the room back to life. From students who pestered years ago, to for fixing the hvac and more, to admin for believing in us, to for making our spaceship work. To my family for supporting this adventure. To the visitors who have been coming on our weekly trips to space. And to you all, our virtual guests. If you’re ever in NYC, do come by for a show!

Long trek after sauna to find the observatory in Helsinki this afternoon. But what a lovely sight when we reached it. At exactly solar noon, the reflection of the sun from the mirror lines up exactly at the center line of the stone spectrum sculpture on the ground.(see pic 5)
