H.E.A.R.T.’s Sweet 16!
This summer marked the 16th for Sacred Heart’s H.E.A.R.T. Summer outreach program. Over the course of 4 weeks, volunteer students from Sacred Heart, Regis, Loyola, Fordham Prep, Bronx Science, and Boston College taught 63 children in classes such as swimming, healthy eating, financial empowerment, and more. This summer, H.E.A.R.T. Also welcomed Gwen Malisani, a RSCJ novice, who provided reflection sessions for the staff to deepen their mentorship of the children. Thank you to our partners at Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Services, Settlement Health, and Mt. Sinai Hospital.

11 of our Upper School students journeyed to the El Paso - Juarez Border Immersion with the Encuentro project from June 13 -19, 2026. Their hearts were transformed, and the experience offered new perspectives on forced migration and asylum seeking through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching. One student said, “You don’t truly understand the situation until you immerse yourself in one’s story and history.” Our students engaged in peaceful, effective action seeking greater justice and compassion for our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters.

Cultivating change and community! Students from Sacred Heart schools in California, Massachusetts, Michigan, Maryland, and Manhattan gathered to learn about food insecurity and urban agriculture in the NYC metropolitan area. It was a week full of planting, weeding, composting, harvesting, study, and reflection.
