I'm a full-time resource room teacher with the NYC Department of Education offering after-school tutoring services to elementary school students.
My name is Myra Alperson. With a career that combines education and journalism, including writing several books, I'm now offering an after-school tutoring service aimed at helping 1st through 5th graders master reading, writing and math skills that take the new Common Core approach into account. To anyone who stumbles on this page (which I haven't promoted in any significant way as yet), please feel free to share it, offer suggestions and strategies, etc. I won't be doing anything about developing this business until after the NYS tests are over, and I'm not looking for a significant number of students. I'll aim to begin in the summer and then hope to have just two or three during the school year, preferably very close to home!
I thought I'd get started a year ago, but I currently plan to offer tutoring services during the summer of 2015 to children in the Washington Heights area, either in their homes or in the community room of my buiding, which is next door to PS 187.
When the time comes, I will start posting notices and reach out to families through various community pages. I welcome your suggestions, too!
